Democrats and their lapdog legacy media allies have been champing at the bit to get their hands on Donald Trump’s tax returns.
They fully believed they’d finally find the former President’s kryptonite hidden somewhere in the pages.
But now Democrats are in chaos after their release of Donald Trump’s tax returns didn’t go according to plan.
After more than six years of conspiracy theories about what would be inside former President Donald Trump’s tax returns, Democrats finally released them to the public.
It’s likely that you’re not even aware that Trump’s tax returns were released, though.
That’s because all of the wild conspiracy theories about his tax returns showing connections to Russia, or a secret payoff to his former attorney Michael Cohen that would prove he made an illicit payment to porn star Stormy Daniels to cover up a one-night stand, or any of the other claims they made were proven to be complete fabrications.
Furthermore, Democrats chose to withhold some 1,100 electronic files that detail the reason the IRS didn’t audit Trump’s Presidential tax returns, which they claimed was their entire reason for demanding his returns from the start.
“We were a bit surprised when the materials did not contain the audit materials,” a GOP aide told Politico. “So you only have the majority’s interpretation of them. They selected limited pieces of audit materials; they didn’t provide very many source documents that would allow you to evaluate for yourself whether their interpretations are fair.”
Of course, as always, Democrats have an excuse for not releasing those 1,100 files – and it’s a whopper.
Hilariously, Democrats on the House Ways and Means Committee – which released Trump’s tax returns with no regard for how it would negatively affect the integrity of the Presidential audit process – claimed withholding the files was necessary for preserving the integrity of the Presidential audit process.
You really can’t make this stuff up.
“The Committee’s investigation exposed the truth and the facts are simple,” a House Ways and Means Committee spokesman claimed. “The IRS failed to audit the former President under the mandatory audit program, and only began once Chairman Neal got involved.”
But as Rep. Kevin Brady (R-TX) pointed out, it’s very likely that Democrats will come to regret their decision, which is going to have an impact on far more than Presidential candidates’ privacy.
“Democrats have charged forward with an unprecedented decision to unleash a dangerous new political weapon that reaches far beyond the former President, overturning decades of privacy protections for average Americans that have existed since Watergate,” Brady explained.
How exactly Republicans will respond to Democrats’ release of Trump’s tax returns is still anyone’s guess.
Maybe even Hunter Biden’s tax returns could soon slip out to the public.
