Senate Minority Leader Mitch McConnell (R-KY) is at war with the conservative wing of the Republican Party.
Mitch McConnell had high hopes for 2024.
But McConnell just suffered a setback when he got some surprising news about 2024 former Indiana Governor Mitch Daniels.
The RINO Senate Minority Leader was certain it would be the year that the GOP establishment regained control of the Republican Party from America First conservatives.
McConnell is planning a two-front war to achieve this goal.
One front is stopping America First leaders like Donald Trump from winning the GOP nomination and the other is electing a handful of RINOs to the U.S. Senate.
However, McConnell’s plan to stack the Senate with Mitt Romney clones just suffered a huge setback when former Indiana Governor Mitch Daniels announced he would not be running for the state’s open Senate seat.
“After what I hope was adequate reflection, I’ve decided not to become a candidate for the U.S. Senate,” Daniels’ statement read. “With full credit and respect for the institution and those serving in it, I conclude that it’s just not the job for me, not the town for me, and not the life I want to live at this point.”
“Maybe I can find ways to contribute that do not involve holding elective office. If not, there is so much more to life. People obsessed with politics or driven by personal ambition sometimes have difficulty understanding those who are neither,” Daniels added.
Montana Senator Steve Daines, the Chairman of the National Republican Senatorial Committee, endorsed pro-Trump Indiana Congressman Jim Banks following Daniels’ announcement.
“I have the utmost respect for the years of service Governor Daniels has given to Indiana and wish him well in the future. I’m looking forward to working with one of our top recruits this cycle, Jim Banks, to keep Indiana Red in 2024,” Daines declared.
Daniels is an establishment figure who called America First conservatives a threat to democracy and supported caving in to Democrats on the culture war.
On the other hand, Banks is an America First conservative in the mold of Donald Trump.
Since a Primary between the two would have served as a proxy war against the establishment, the conservative Club for Growth previously promised to spend whatever it took to defeat Daniels.
But Daniels saw the writing on the wall.
And he bowed out of the race rather than face the impending brawl against Banks and the conservative base.
