Most conservatives and many Republicans hoped Mitt Romney’s crushing loss in his Presidential run meant he would just fade away.
But as a U.S. Senator Romney continues to be a problem.
While the country is in turmoil from President Joe Biden’s failed policies, Senator Mitt Romney (R-UT) is more interested in working fist-in-glove with Democrats to cut deals and sell out his base than he is in fighting for the American people.
In fact, Romney has spent more time whining about former President Donald Trump than trying to stop the current President Joe Biden’s radical agenda.
For example, Romney worked diligently to hand Biden major victories on gun control, increased spending, and on a pork barrel infrastructure bill that raised taxes.
The only question now is, for what reason is Mitt Romney even a Republican?
He certainly isn’t a Republican on the issues.
Now, the failed 2012 Republican Presidential candidate is up for reelection in 2024 and conservatives are planning to end his political career once and for all in Utah’s Republican Primary.
Not surprisingly, since Romney has spent the bulk of his first term in the Senate stabbing conservatives in the back, he is polling poorly in Utah.
While Romney has not yet said whether or not he’s going to run for reelection, that didn’t stop a strong potential GOP challenger from making a move to challenge Romney for Utah’s Senate seat.
Representative Brad Wilson, Utah’s Republican State House Speaker has announced he is forming an exploratory committee for a possible Senate run against Romney next year.
In his announcement, Wilson said that Utah needs a “conservative fighter” in Washington, D.C. not a “career politician.”
“I really believe that what Washington needs is to be a lot more like Utah,” Wilson continued. “We’ve got this amazing opportunity to send Utah values back to D.C., and to have a conservative fighter back there, doing things back there the way we do them here in the Beehive State.”
Wilson’s exploratory committee allows him to begin raising money and campaign ahead of an official campaign launch.
Romney also recently filed paperwork with the Federal Election Commission (FEC) that keeps the door open for him to seek reelection next year.
The RINO Senator told Politico there’s “frankly, not a question in my mind” about winning reelection to the Senate.
“I’ve faced long odds: Getting the nomination in 2012 was a long shot, becoming a Republican governor in one of the most liberal states in America, Massachusetts,” Romney said. “I’m convinced that if I run, I win but that’s a decision I’ll make.”
Unlike Romney who bragged about voting against Trump 2016 and 2020, Wilson said that he voted for the former President both times.
Romney teamed up with Democrats by voting for both of the impeachment hoaxes against Trump, and Romney has proudly announced he did not vote for Donald Trump either time.
So not surprisingly, the former President has been looking to back a 2024 challenger against him.
And he may have one in Wilson.
Unlike Romney who bragged about voting against Trump 2016 and 2020, Wilson said that he voted for the former President both times.
Wilson may be not the only Republican who could challenge Romney in the Primary.
Utah Attorney General Sean Reyes reportedly met with Trump about throwing his hat in the ring against Romney as well.
Reyes served as the co-chair of Trump’s Utah reelection campaign in 2020.
If conservatives and Trump voters can come together behind one candidate, Mitt Romney’s political career could come to an end in embarrassing fashion at the hands of Utah’s conservative GOP Primary voters.
