Nancy Pelosi rules the U.S. House with an iron fist.
She doesn’t allow members of her caucus to question her authority.
But that may change now that Nancy Pelosi is facing a tough challenge from the one place she never expected.
Democrats recently passed a $1.2 trillion so-called “infrastructure” spending bill.
That wasn’t enough for every Democrat so they passed Bernie Sanders’ $3.5 trillion socialist Green New Deal spending bill through the Senate.
The tax-and-spend bonanza is all under the guise of so-called infrastructure because Nancy Pelosi is planning to link the two bills together into one massive spending bill.
However, with more and more Americans growing concerned over rising inflation, if moderate Democrats vote for the combined bill they know their careers will be over in 2022.
At the same time, socialist Democrats like Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez refuse to support the $1.2 trillion “infrastructure” bill unless it’s tied to the $3.5 trillion bill.
This is causing trouble for Pelosi.
In fact, nine Democrats in swing districts just sent her a letter saying they will not vote on the budget resolution on August 23 that will begin the process of allowing Bernie Sanders to draft a $3.5 trillion budget Democrats hope to ram through the reconciliation process.
“Some have suggested that we hold off on considering the Senate infrastructure bill for months – until the reconciliation process is completed. We disagree. With the livelihoods of hardworking American families at stake, we simply can’t afford months of unnecessary delays and risk squandering this once-in-a-century, bipartisan infrastructure package. It’s time to get shovels in the ground and people to work. We will not consider voting for a budget resolution until the bipartisan Infrastructure Investment and Jobs Act passes the House and is signed into law,” the letter read.
Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez, who controls around 100 votes with her allies in the house, previously threatened to not vote for the $1.2 trillion bill until Congress passed Bernie Sanders’ $3.5 trillion budget resolution.
Given her slim majority, Pelosi can only afford to lose three votes to pass legislation, placing her in a position she hasn’t ever found herself in before.
