Democrats didn’t realize it was this bad in their all-out drive to hold the House heading into 2022.
Speaker Pelosi could get fired immediately if it proves reality.
Because Nancy Pelosi just got handed one set of horrific poll numbers that will send some Democrats running for the exits.
Democrats know they’re facing an uphill battle in 2022.
Republicans only need to flip six seats to take back the House and fire Nancy Pelosi in 2022.
And all polling data points toward a historic wave for Republicans in the upcoming Midterm elections.
In fact, a brand new ABC/Washington Post poll shows Democrats trailing Republicans by 10 points on the Congressional generic ballot question.
That 10-point margin represented the largest lead for the GOP in the 40-year history of the poll.
“As things stand, if the midterm elections were today, 51 percent of registered voters say they’d support the Republican candidate in their congressional district, 41 percent the Democrat,” the ABC release read. “That’s the biggest lead for the Republicans in 110 ABC/Post polls to ask this question since November 1981. Indeed, it’s only the second time the GOP has held a statistically significant advantage (the other was +7 points in January 2002) and the ninth time it’s held any numerical edge at all.”
It’s rare for Republicans to lead in this question.
As ABC and The Washington Post pointed out, this is only the ninth time Republicans have ever topped Democrats in this poll.
When Republicans do lead in the generic ballot, it usually doesn’t occur until closer to Election Day.
For example, the October ABC/Washington Post poll in 2009 showed Democrats with a 51 to 39 lead over Republicans in the generic ballot question.
But the last poll taken before Election Day showed Republicans with a four-point lead over the Democrats, which still underestimated the 63 seats Republicans picked up that year as a result of the Tea Party wave.
With Republicans holding a 10-point lead on the generic ballot question this early, which has never happened, will likely spur more Democrats to retire instead of facing voters at the ballot box in 2022.
