Democrats seem to be in all kinds of trouble going into the midterm elections.
But Nancy Pelsoi is as cool as a cucumber.
And her stunning prediction about the midterms will make your blood boil.
Conservatives should beware.
According to the normal measures used, it looks like Republicans will be able to swoop in and take back Congress in November.
However, Nancy Pelosi seems to think Democrats have an ace up their sleeves.
TIME Magazine’s Molly Ball was practicing plenty of hero worship during a recent interview with the Speaker of the House, but still asked Pelosi about all the polls indicating Republicans are primed for a major comeback this year.
“You mentioned the midterm elections in 2018 that returned you to the speakership. We got a midterm election this year. Most people are saying it doesn’t look very good for your party,” Ball said. “How do you see the midterms going, and what do you see as the potential consequences if the Democrats lose Congress?”
Pelosi didn’t miss a beat.
“I don’t have any intention of the Democrats losing the Congress in November,” Pelosi declared.
Not only did she claim victory early, she also pulled out a favorite leftist fear tactic.
After all, she might not be able to inspire young voters, but she can certainly scare the garbage out of them.
“It is absolutely essential for our democracy that we win. I fear for our democracy if the Republicans were ever to get the gavel. We can’t let that happen. Democracy is on the ballot in November,” Pelosi added.
Conservatives fear for our republic when politicians pull dirty stunts reminiscent of corrupt regimes where there’s basically only one real option offered during an “election.”
Pelosi’s confidence isn’t all sheer bravado.
Even though one poll after another shows Republicans absolutely trouncing Democrats in seven months, Pelosi is counting on structural advantages Democrats managed to secure during the redistricting process.
Pelosi argued that all the pundits were proved wrong when they predicted the GOP would come out ahead after state legislatures and commissions drew new Congressional District maps.
She’s claiming her party will come out ahead for the same reason this November.
“Everybody said redistricting was going to be horrible for the Democrats,” Pelosi said. “Remember that? Not so. Not so. If anything, we’ll pick up seats rather than lose 10 to 15, which conventional wisdom said that we would. There’s nothing conventional anymore, and it certainly ain’t wisdom.”
Of course, the reason redistricting benefited Democrats to the extent that it did during the last go ‘round is Democrats gamed the system using partisan courts in Ohio, North Carolina, and Pennsylvania to gain an advantage even in states with Republicans controlling state legislatures.
In blue states like Illinois and New York they got creative in order to create even more districts Democrats could win.
Even so, Democrats are fighting an uphill battle in November.
Republicans only need to add five more seats to kick Nancy Pelosi out of power.
And there’s enough GOP anger at how Joe Biden and Nancy Pelosi have teamed up to destroy the country in the past year to ensure plenty of Republicans are out to win no matter the cost.
