Despite having a mostly conservative audience, the NFL, NBA, MLB and even NHL are in a race for the woke championship.
You would think conservatives would at least be safe watching NASCAR – you’d be wrong.
NASCAR was once the fastest growing sport in the United States.
The stockcar racing circuit grew from its humble roots to become a tradition for many families in the mostly red states of the South.
It has since been surpassed as “fastest growing” by mixed martial arts, and now – believe it or not – pickleball, according to Fortune.
What happened to NASCAR?
Why have the speeds slowed?
One reason seems to be that the executives running the circuit decided to focus on its social credit score, embracing Environmental and Social Governance (ESG) policies.
In 2004, just two years before NASCAR’s popularity first started to dip – the race car giant spun out its “Drive for Diversity” program, aimed at getting more non-whites and women interested in the sport.
Part of the “Drive for Diversity” program includes NASCAR’s “Pit Crew Development Program,” and “Driver Development Program,” offering “comprehensive training program for aspiring minority and female pit crew members” and “top minority and female drivers.”
Program recipients receive “coaching, mentorship, and development,” from NASCAR legends and experts.
And white men need not apply.
Leftist virtue signaling like that may not be squaring with the vast swaths of NASCAR fans.
FOX Sports finished the first half of the 2023 NASCAR Cup Series with viewership averages down 10% from the same period of 2022.
But yet NASCAR executives are doubling down on their woke agenda.
And their latest move is being called “blatantly illegal” by some legal scholars.
NASCAR has launched a “diversity internship.”
The Daily Wire is reporting NASCAR’s “diversity internship program” is not available to white applicants.
“Be a member of one or more of the following races/ethnic minority classifications: Black or African American, American Indian or Alaska Native, Asian, Latino or Hispanic, Native Hawaiian or Other Pacific Islander,” the first bullet point under program requirements reads.
The Daily Wire’s Spencer Lindquist spoke to David Bernstein, a professor at George Mason University’s Antonin Scalia School of Law, about NASCAR’s “diversity internship.”
In Bernstein’s expert legal opinion, NASCAR is breaking the law with its anti-white internship.
“Having a 100% quota for minorities for a position is illegal even under a very generous view of what is allowed,” Bernstein said.
The law professor added that under Title VII and the 1866 Civil Rights Act, a non-minority applicant turned down for the NASCAR internship due to his or her race would have legal standing to sue the company.
NASCAR’s woke history doesn’t end there.
The organization has suspended drivers for liking “insensitive” tweets, and even publicly apologized for inviting Republican Gov. Greg Abbott of Texas to a race.
