Former Attorney General William Barr recently embarked on a national media tour to promote his new anti-Trump book.
Everyone knows that Barr and Trump don’t have a good relationship.
But no one expected William Barr to make this shocking confession about Donald Trump running for President.
The odds are more than in Donald Trump’s favor to win the nomination if he decides to run again in 2024.
But Trump-haters know many in the Republican Party who might prefer someone else will vote for him over a Democrat.
In fact, former Attorney General William Barr just made that case.
During a recent interview with NBC’s Savannah Guthrie, former Attorney General William Barr said he would not support Donald Trump for President in 2024 because of the way he acted after the 2020 election.
“I was pretty content with the administration until the election…But after the election, he went off the rails,” Barr stated.
After that, Barr said that anyone who told Trump there was no widespread voter fraud in the election was quickly rejected by the former President.
“He wouldn’t listen to anybody except a little coterie of sycophants who were telling him what he wanted to hear,” Barr added. “I think he did a lot of damage after the election, both with this idea that the election was stolen, and also by him rallying this group to Capitol Hill where the clear purpose was to intimidate the Vice President and Congress.”
However, during a back-and-forth with Guthrie, Barr explained that if Trump were the GOP nominee in 2024, he would vote for him over the Democrat in the General Election.
“I certainly have made it clear I don’t think he should be our nominee, and I’m gonna support somebody else,” Barr added.
“But if he is the nominee and your choice is Trump or whoever’s running on the Democratic side, would you vote for him?” Guthrie asked in response.
Barr answered that he would vote for Trump over whoever the Democrats nominate because he believes their socialist agenda is the greatest threat to America right now.
“Because I believe the greatest threat to the country is the progressive agenda being pushed by the Democratic Party, it’s inconceivable to me that I wouldn’t vote for the Republican nominee,” Barr responded.
“So even if he lied about the election and threatened democracy…Better than a Democrat?” Guthrie followed up.
“As of now, it’s hard for me to conceive that I wouldn’t vote for the Republican nominee,” Barr shot back.
Of course, Donald Trump will almost certainly win the nomination if he decides to run again in 2024.
Trump-haters know this, which is why Barr isn’t the only one who said they would vote for Trump over the Democrat.
Senate Majority Leader Mitch McConnell also echoed Barr’s sentiment, which only shows that as much as the Republican Party establishment despises Donald Trump, they still know he is the dominant force in GOP politics.
