CNN served as the poster child for anti-Trump fake news over the past several years.
A massive shakeup is taking place at the network.
But nobody expected this to be the reason two big names at CNN would be on the chopping block.
Discovery CEO David Zaslav is starting to make changes at CNN now that the merger with Warner Brothers is complete.
Zaslav’s first move was to bring on Christ Licht to replace the disgraced Jeff Zucker as the network’s new President.
Zaslav instructed Licht to restore the network’s credibility to its glory days during the first Gulf War by reining in the left-wing partisanship on CNN, putting leftist hosts under intense scrutiny to see if they can revert back to real journalism instead of pushing Democrat propaganda 24/7.
CNN’s new boss Chris Licht is evaluating whether personalities and programming that grew polarizing during the Trump era can adapt to the network’s new priority to be less partisan.
Why it matters: If talent cannot adjust to a less partisan tone and strategy, they could be ousted, three sources familiar with the matter tell Axios.
Details: Licht wants to give personalities that may appear polarizing a chance to prove they’re willing to uphold the network’s values so that they don’t tarnish CNN’s journalism brand.
If any of CNN’s on-air talent fails to adjust to the new policy and actually report the real news instead of the Left’s partisan agenda, they will be booted from the network.
And according to Axios, the two names currently on the hot seat are none other than Brian Stelter and Jim Acosta.
“Some on-air personalities, like Jim Acosta and Brian Stelter, have become the face of the network’s liberal shift to conservative critics,” Axios also reported.
For months, rumors have circulated that this change was coming to CNN.
Last year, when the merger was announced, Zaslav’s mentor John Malone, who is also the largest investor in Discovery, publicly declared he wanted CNN to go back to real journalism instead of partisan politics.
“I would like to see CNN evolve back to the kind of journalism that it started with, and actually have journalists, which would be unique and refreshing,” Malone stated.
If left-wing partisans and hacks such as Stelter and Acosta actually adopt a down-the-middle news strategy, it will prove that CNN is truly committed to making a real change at the network.
