A major shakeup just went down in the United States Senate.
The incident took place on the GOP side.
And one Republican Senator just dropped a bombshell on Mitch McConnell that turned his world upside down.
Senator Mike Braun (R-IN) recently joined with nine of his GOP colleagues and voted against Mitch McConnell for Republican Senate Leader.
Like many conservatives, McConnell infuriated Braun when he sold out and cut deals with Democrats on gun control, socialist spending, and the Green New Deal.
But Braun’s time in the Senate is coming to an end, as POLITICO just reported that he is resigning in 2024 in order to make a run for Governor of Indiana.
POLITICO reports:
Indiana Sen. Mike Braun is running for governor, according to paperwork filed with the secretary of state’s office Tuesday.
POLITICO reported in September that Braun, elected to the Senate in 2018 after defeating former Sen. Joe Donnelly (D-Ind.), was leaning toward a gubernatorial run. He won a fierce GOP primary six years ago, defeating former Reps. Todd Rokita and Luke Messer.
A former executive of a distribution company, Braun has long chafed at the speed of the Senate, and Indiana Republicans close to him say he is more suited to being an executive. His current term ends in 2024. He was among a small group of Republicans backing Florida Sen. Rick Scott’s challenge to Senate Minority Leader Mitch McConnell earlier this month.
Braun’s resignation means a fierce Primary battle will take place in Indiana for the Senate seat.
Given Indiana’s red tilt, the winner will be able to stay in office for as long as they desire.
Congressman Jim Banks, a Trump ally who will oppose McConnell’s brand of RINO leadership, and Congresswoman Victoria Spartz are rumored to be running for the seat.
McConnell’s Super PAC, the Senate Leadership Fund, is expected to dump tons of money into the race to stop the conservative candidate from winning, as he needs allies in the Upper Chamber who will march in lockstep behind him on compromises.
Since Indiana gives him an opportunity to replace a conservative with one of his hand-picked cronies, McConnell will drop tens of millions of dollars into Indiana to elect a RINO ally.
