Mike Pence was selected to oversee the Trump administration’s response to the coronavirus.
The first step was for Pence to reach out to Congressional leaders and ensure everyone was on the same page about the government’s response.
But the call didn’t go according to plan when Pelosi unexpectedly went off script.
The Trump administration knows how serious the coronavirus situation could be.
Vice President Mike Pence was an excellent pick to head up the response give that his first instinct is to put America first and forge a united and bipartisan consensus to head-off the potential for a crisis.
But Nancy Pelosi and Congressional Democrats only see the coronavirus as a chance to score cheap political points during an election year.
So when Pence called Pelosi, no one expected what happened next.
Speaker Pelosi tore into Pence calling him “unequipped” and “unqualified” to oversee the government’s response.
When discussing the call with Sean Hannity on Fox News, Vice President Pence refused to sink to Pelosi’s level.
“The president also directed me to reach out. I spoke to Speaker Pelosi. I spoke to Sen. Schumer. […] They were good conversations,” Pence began.
Pence also reassured viewers that unlike the Democrats, the Trump administration realized this was a time for Americans to set partisanship aside and come together as Americans.
He went on to tell Hannity, “the president said to me, look, I want you to reach out to the Republican and Democrat leadership. Because we want to push politics aside, we want to make sure we get the resources that we need to respond to this, to make sure the CDC, all of our agencies, have the support that they need.”
Knowing that fear itself can be crippling for individuals and a nation, Pence emphasized that while the current risk of infection was low, the Trump administration would be ready for any outcome, including a severe outbreak.
Despite headlines from the Fake News Media to the contrary, the Trump administration is developing a competent and robust response for the coronavirus.
They know the politics will take care of itself in the end and Democrats will pay a price at the polls for partisan stunts during a time of crisis.
