But Florida Governor Ron DeSantis’ wife Casey just blasted Democrats over it.
And the Florida First Lady has parents all over the country nodding their heads in agreement.
Joe Biden’s Department of Education announced Tuesday it’s looking to hire 250,000 tutors to undo damage caused by virtual learning.
The initiative to “spur academic recovery” may or may not work, but the academic setback caused by pandemic policies is certainly significant.
In California only 46% of high school students are on track to meet university standards according to a Washington Examiner article.
That’s a 13% decline.
Meanwhile in Texas only 36% of fourth graders are reading as well as they should.
Of course, Democrats are always tickled to have a new problem in front of them.
It’s just one more opportunity to spend taxpayer money and try convincing more people they just got something free from the party of donkeys.
But Florida Governor Ron DeSantis’ wife, Casey, wasn’t willing to let them get away with that without a good tongue lashing.
“The latest ‘report’ from the Biden administration ignores the real reason for catastrophic learning loss: Democrat lockdowns,” Casey DeSantis wrote in a tweet. “While other states were locking people down, in Florida @RonDeSantisFL lifted people up – Kids were in school, in person.”
Of course, in the process of fixing a problem they created, the Biden administration is busy growing Big Government.
They created something called the National Partnership for Student Success (NPSS) which the Education Department claims is “a new coalition that will support the expansion, launch and improvement of high-impact tutoring, mentoring and other programs to make up for lost instructional time, and support student mental health and overall wellbeing.”
Based on the woke nonsense being bandied about, most parents would probably be happier if they would just stick to teaching kids how to read, write, and do math.
Apparently the initiative came straight out of Biden’s State of the Union speech and is supposed to “bring together school districts, non-profit partners, and institutions of higher education to recruit, train, place, and support screened adults in critical high impact roles such as tutors, mentors, student success coaches, and more.”
No doubt, plenty of education firms have been lobbying to get a piece of the action.
What would be really great is if Democrats would stop going out of their way to mess up our nation’s kids in the first place.
Then they wouldn’t need to spend untold millions of money taxpayers don’t have trying to make up for lost time.
