Conservative Sean Hannity is one of the most popular television hosts.
His show on Fox News often serves as a forum for Republicans to reach voters.
But he just blindsided viewers with a massive jaw-dropping announcement.
When Herschel Walker finally lost his runoff election to Democrat Senator Raphael Warnock it punctuated a disappointing Midterm election performance for the GOP.
Not only did they fail to pick up the number of House seats expected, Republicans also lost a seat in the Senate.
That’s caused conservatives to reevaluate how the party is gearing up for political battles.
Some were pointing out that the party’s election infrastructure needs to change and that it’s time to embrace mail-in and early voting.
Hannity was one of the voices on the Right trying to convince Republicans to drop their aversion to mail-in voting.
“It’s time now for Republicans to start paying a little bit of attention and embracing the voting system that we have and not the one that they wish that they had,” Hannity argued. “They need to accept the rules as they are, not as they want them to be.”
Hannity added that once Republicans start winning gubernatorial and state legislative races, the GOP can implement election integrity measures, which include shutting down on mail-in voting and ballot harvesting.
In the meantime, Hannity says Republicans need to accept the current rules and play by them.
“And then after they win Governorships, after they win state legislatures, then they can change laws over time, add all the integrity measures for elections that they want, and put it in the process of our elections,” Hannity continued. “But that means they need to play the early voting game, the ballot harvesting game. They need to do it well, if not better than the Democrats, all legally, of course.”
“This is the system,” Hannity summed up. “This is the current reality. Do I think it’s the best system? No, I think it’s bad. Now, Democrats have embraced the system. Republicans have not – to their own detriment. They ignore this reality.”
Hannity says his ideal voting system includes in-person voting and paper ballots.
However, by fighting elections with one hand tied behind their backs and eschewing mail-in-balloting, it’s making it harder for the GOP to win elections and reform the current system.
“In a Hannity-perfect world, if I laid out what would have the most integrity and everybody would have confidence in the resulting elections, when Republicans win gubernatorial races and state legislatures, I would make Election Day a national holiday,” Hannity said. “I would have paper ballots only. I would have partisan observers, people from every Party—they would watch the voting in every precinct and the vote-counting after the polls close.”
But in order to make that happen, Republicans will have to figure out how to win consistently.
