At one time, the Fox News Channel was the top-rated cable news network.
But after the 2020 election, Fox found itself sitting in last place.
And now, supporters of Donald Trump just hit Fox News with a huge wake-up call.
Fox suffered a severe downturn in viewership after the 2020 Presidential election.
The network lost a whopping 40 percent of its viewers.
The blame was spread around, but there is no doubt that a large part of the drop was because Trump supporters were upset with the network’s left-leaning coverage.
During the first Presidential debate, Chris Wallace’s biased performance left President Trump’s supporters furious and calling for the network to ax him.
Wallace’s performance favored Biden so heavily that even the Left noticed what he was doing.
But that wasn’t all Fox did to infuriate its viewers.
Fox’s decision to call Arizona for Joe Biden with only 73 percent of the vote drove the nail in its coffin.
Viewers’ trust in Fox News plummeted among Trump supporters.
News outlets such as Newsmax and One American News Network (OAN) saw a spike in viewership as Trump supporters began getting more and more of their news from sources other than Fox.
Just four years prior, during the 2016 Presidential race, there wasn’t a network out there that could compete with Fox among conservative viewers.
The news website, Mediaite, interviewed a number of Trump supporters at the recent Conservative Political Action Conference (CPAC) and found that most of them stopped watching Fox News when they felt the network turned their backs on Trump.
Keith Hanson, a conservative talk show host, told Mediaite that he turned off Fox News about a week before the election when he believes they became more centrist and some of their commentators began to “lean to the left.”
A number of the CPAC attendees Mediaite interviewed said they started turning to other news sources such as Newsmax and OAN because of their reliable election coverage.
Eric Bolling, a former host at Fox News, told Mediaite the feelings in the Trump base explains why Fox gave host Greg Gutfeld, a Trump supporter, a weekly 11pm show.
“Fox’s strategy to win back Trump viewers appears to be to go all-in on opinion programming from 7p through midnight,” Bolling stated.
Many who have stopped watching Fox News have said they are unlikely to make a full-time return to the network.
Fox burned their viewers by allowing hosts to spew the same left-wing propaganda as CNN and MSNBC.
Viewers weren’t going to take it, and they showed up in a big way letting Fox know they weren’t happy with what was happening to their once beloved network.
In recent weeks Fox has begun adding more opinion programming to the schedule.
It looks as if the powers that be at the network are hoping to create new conservative stars as they did with Jesse Watters and Tucker Carlson.
Only time will tell if Fox’s strategy works.
