Chris Cuomo has been one of the most outspoken, left-wing anchors at CNN for the past several years.
But his time on the air may be over.
And the sex scandal hammer dropping on Chris Cuomo could be the end for the top CNN host.
CNN just announced they were suspending Chris Cuomo indefinitely from the network.
The move comes after the New York State Attorney General’s office recently made thousands of pages of documents from its investigation into multiple allegations of sexual misconduct or assault against former Governor Andrew Cuomo available for the public.
Of course, Andrew Cuomo stepped down in August after the sexual misconduct accusations were made against him.
But CNN host Chris Cuomo, who is Andrew’s brother, previously admitted that he participated in strategy calls with his brother’s advisors on the best way to respond to the growing scandal.
But apparently, Chris Cuomo’s involvement ran much deeper than just a few strategy calls.
In fact, documents show Cuomo worked his contacts in the media to dig up dirt on at least one of the women alleging Governor Cuomo sexually harassed her by touching her inappropriately at a wedding.
Chris Cuomo was actively in touch with Melissa DeRosa, who was the then-governor’s top aide, about incoming media reports that detailed alleged sexual harassment by Andrew Cuomo, according to exhibits from the Attorney General’s probe and a transcript of his interview with the state’s investigators. He also lobbied to help the governor’s office as it sought to weather the storm of accusations, and he dictated statements for the then-governor to use.
“Please let me help with the prep,” Chris Cuomo said to DeRosa in one message in early March. Then, three days after the New York Times reported in March about how Andrew Cuomo attempted to kiss a woman, Anna Ruch, in an unwanted advance at a wedding, Chris Cuomo texted DeRosa: “I have a lead on the wedding girl.”
After CNN faced immediate calls to fire Cuomo, the P.R. Director, Matt Dornic, put out a statement saying that CNN was planning on taking a wait-and-see approach to the scandal.
“The thousands of pages of additional transcripts and exhibits that were released today by the NY Attorney General deserve a thorough review and consideration,” Dornic stated. “We will be having conversations and seeking additional clarity about their significance as they relate to CNN over the next several days.”
CNN previously refused to fire Jeffrey Toobin, a legal analyst who was caught masturbating on a Zoom call with his coworkers at the New York Times.
But Chris Cuomo is facing an even more serious accusation, which is why CNN just announced they were suspending him indefinitely from the network.
Of course, it remains to be seen what exactly that means for Chris Cuomo at CNN.
CNN famously brought back chief legal analyst Jeffrey Toobin eight months after he exposed himself during a Zoom meeting.
So this scandal may not be the end for Cuomo at CNN.
