Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez’s radical “Squad” brand of politics has millions of Americans scared to death, and new DNC Vice Chair David Hogg gave them all the more reason to fear.
Now, the fight for control inside the Democrat Party is going hot.
And the war between Chuck Schumer and Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez took a desperate turn.
Young DNC Vice Chair gets stern warning from party leadership
Democrat National Committee Vice Chair David Hogg appeared on CNN’s The Lead with Jake Tapper last week to announce his ambitious plan to challenge sitting Democrats in safe blue districts.
Hogg boldly announced his intention to raise $20 million to primary Democrat incumbents he considers “dead weight” in Congress.
That news gave a surge in confidence to Congresswoman Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez (D-NY) but had Senate Minority Leader Chuck Schumer (D-NY) sweating bullets as it looks clear she intends to primary the top Senate Democrat after Hogg’s announcement, arguing that the Democrat Party needs fresh blood to “rise to meet the moment” following their crushing defeat in the 2024 elections.
But DNC Chairman Ken Martin quickly stomped on Hogg’s revolution before it could even begin.
“No DNC officer should ever attempt to influence the outcome of a primary election, whether on behalf of an incumbent or a challenger,” Martin told CNN in no uncertain terms.
“While, you know, certainly, you know, I understand what he’s trying to do. As I’ve said to him, if you want to challenge incumbents, you’re more than free to do that, but just not as an officer of the DNC,” Martin added, his Minnesota accent on full display.
Former Biden White House official Meghan Hays backed up Martin’s position even more forcefully during the CNN segment.
“You don’t do that as a member of the DNC. You are an elected person on the DNC. Leave the party and go do that,” Hays declared. “The DNC is not an idea. That is a Democratic Party. The DNC is an institution with a job to do. People vote in primaries, not the DNC.”
When Tapper tried to gauge whether Hays had any sympathy for Hogg’s position, she didn’t mince words: “No. Then don’t be part of the DNC.”
Hays acknowledged that primaries are part of the democratic process but insisted, “If you want to help the primary challengers, then leave the DNC. That is not your role as the DNC.”
Democrats in disarray after 2024 losses
The Hogg rebellion is just the latest sign of the Democratic Party’s struggle to find its footing after Donald Trump’s historic return to the White House.
Breitbart’s Washington Bureau Chief Matt Boyle believes the Democrats’ internal squabbles represent a party in total disarray.
“They’re lost in the wilderness, they’re a mess,” Boyle said on Breitbart Confidential.
Boyle dismissed the notion that the Democrats’ civil war represents any genuine ideological realignment, calling it “just more of a shuffling of the deck chairs on the Titanic.”
“There’s no serious leader, there’s no serious vision and their serious people have all fled the country, like literally in some cases,” Boyle explained.
The exodus extends beyond just elected officials, according to Boyle.
“The pros, the seasoned hands they’ve have bounced,” he said, referring to veteran Democratic consultants. “On the Democrat side, they’ve lost confidence in their party.”
“A lot of them are just looking for work in other places, and they just don’t have confidence in their party,” Boyle added.
The Democratic establishment’s reaction to Hogg’s attempted insurgency highlights the party’s inability to chart a path forward after their disastrous showing in the 2024 elections.
While Hogg advocated for wholesale changes to the party’s congressional delegation, DNC leadership appears determined to circle the wagons around incumbents.
This top-down approach mirrors the same failed strategy that led Democrats to lose the White House, the Senate, and the House of Representatives in November.
Party insiders refuse to admit that their policy agenda and messaging strategy have alienated vast swaths of the American public.
Instead of embracing self-reflection and new leadership, establishment Democrats like Martin and Hays are enforcing party orthodoxy and stifling internal debate.
With the DNC establishment shutting down Hogg’s attempt to reinvigorate the party through competitive primaries, Democrats seem destined to repeat the same mistakes that led to their current predicament.
President Trump and Republican leaders continue to implement their America First agenda while Democrats waste precious time and resources fighting among themselves.
As the circular firing squad continues, Republican unity and purpose stand in stark contrast to the Democratic Party’s internal chaos.
