Rep. Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez (D-NY) rails against those in power and “the 1%” she’s simultaneously growing her net worth and settling in nicely to her new life in the ruling class elite.
For as much as Rep. Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez (D-NY) loves to blame all societal ills on the rich and powerful, she seems to enjoy being part of the rich and powerful plenty.
And now this jaw-dropping report may have just put Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez’s political future in jeopardy.
That was on full display back in 2021, when she attended the ultra exclusive, $35,000 per ticket Met Gala wearing a designer dress with the phrase “Tax the Rich” on the back.
Obviously, Rep. Ocasio-Cortez was rightly blasted for being completely oblivious to the reality that she’s part of the ruling class elite, but looking like a total hypocrite is really the least of her problems at this point.
That’s because the House Office of Congressional Ethics recently issued a unanimous recommendation that the House Ethics Committee move forward with an investigation into the Congresswoman that is centered around her Met Gala attendance.
According to the Office of Congressional Ethics’ report, Ocasio-Cortez is accused of taking “impermissible gifts associated with her attendance at the Met Gala in 2021,” a violation of both House rules and federal law.
“As part of her attendance, Rep. Ocasio-Cortez was provided with a couture dress, handbag, shoes, and jewelry,” the report stated. “She also received hair, makeup, transportation, and ready-room services.”
On top of all the gifts she received in order to attend the gala, the Democrat also apparently managed to secure attire and accessories for her boyfriend to attend as well.
But there’s a little problem with that – on top of receiving enormous discounts for the items that amounted to the illicit gifts, Ocasio-Cortez also refused to pay the small amount she did owe for the items until she was already under investigation for the ethics violations.
And despite trying to pay those unpaid bills once she was being investigated for them, the House Ethics Office noted she still may not have paid back “several thousands of dollars’ worth of goods and services provided to her.”
In addition to the aforementioned illicit gifts, the investigation of the Democrat Congresswoman will also include a probe of the $70,000 pair of tickets AOC and her boyfriend received for free.
Members of Congress are permitted to accept tickets to charity events free of charge so long as they are gifted to the politician by the nonprofit organizing the event.
But according to emails discovered during the Congressional Ethics Committee investigation into her, after her staff spent a copious amount of time they should have been using to work for their constituents in order to beg for Met Gala tickets for the Congresswoman and her boyfriend, they eventually connected her with Vogue editor Anna Wintour, who runs the gala.
The Daily Wire reported that the emails show Wintour ultimately extended an invitation for Rep. Ocasio-Cortez to attend the Met Gala explicitly as “guests of Vogue” – which is a violation of House rules and federal law.
However, after AOC attended the event and brought attention to herself for her “Tax the Rich” dress, leading reporters to start probing how she got in, the Democrats’ staff and Vogue employees conspired to rewrite history, claiming she was Wintour’s personal guest to cover up the literal crime that had already been committed.
AOC may like to claim she’s “Alex from the Bronx” who fights for the little people against the “evil” rich.
But if she’s not already there, she’s well on her way to becoming part of that 1% she claims to fight against.
Needless to say, with the House Ethics investigation only just getting started, Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez’s political future may very well be in jeopardy.
