Democrats and their media allies are looking addicted to the idea of imprisoning Donald Trump in many Americans’ eyes.
And most addicts will do almost anything to get a fix even if there’s a chance it blows up in their face.
As has become commonplace for Democrats’ many witch hunts against former President Donald Trump, Special Counsel Jack Smith had to invent a legal theory manipulating obscure laws dating back as far as the 1860s in order to issue his January 6 indictment.
That was the only way he could invent any sort of crimes the former President could have possibly broken by simply contesting the 2020 election.
Nevertheless, Democrats and their media allies are exceedingly confident that they have Trump dead to rights, and fully believe that the only possible outcome is his imprisonment.
As such, Rep. Adam Schiff (D-CA) recently decided that he needed to insert himself into the former President’s impending trial by being the lead signatory on a Democrat letter demanding that the entire trial be a nationally televised spectacle.
“Transparency will be crucial in the trials of the U.S. v. Donald J. Trump,” Schiff wrote on social media to announce the letter. “It’s why dozens of my colleagues joined me today in urging that these proceedings be broadcast for the public. If the American people are to accept the outcome, it will be vitally important for them to witness, as directly as possible, the full facts and evidence.”
Televising the Trump trial would be an unprecedented move, as federal courts have long barred television cameras from the courtroom.
But at the same time, by making such an unprecedented demand, Democrats may also just be setting themselves up for failure.
In fact, as was the case with the political theater Democrats pulled with the January 6 Committee’s made-for-TV hearings, it’s very likely that televising the trial could simply serve to expose just how far the Biden regime has bent over backwards to imprison President Joe Biden’s top political rival.
After all, they handpicked a federal judge who was a major donor and appointee of former Barack Obama to stack the deck against Trump, and if the American people see that judge favoring the Biden regime in any way, it’s going to raise all sorts of questions about the legitimacy of the entire trial.
And that doesn’t even begin to touch on Smith’s supposed “evidence” against Trump, and the fact that anyone following along will have to do mental gymnastics to wrap their head around the new legal theory he invented solely to imprison the former President.
Put simply, Democrats may be clamoring to televise Donald Trump’s trial now, but they may very soon come to regret that decision.
