Donald Trump’s Senate impeachment trial is expected to commence at some point in the next few weeks.

Under normal circumstances, the Chief Justice of the Supreme Court presides over a President’s impeachment.

But this unexpected move by Chief Justice John Roberts could put Kamala Harris in charge of Trump’s impeachment trial in the Senate.

Since Donald Trump is no longer the President, the Constitution doesn’t require the Chief Justice to be the one to reside over his Senate impeachment trial.

And reports are circulating that Chief Justice John Roberts is considering recusing himself from Donald Trump’s trial, meaning Kamala Harris would be the one calling the shots.

As POLITICO Playbook reports:

JOHN ROBERTS WANTS OUT OF JURY DUTY: Multiple Republican and Democratic sources close to the impeachment trial negotiations tell us that Supreme Court Chief Justice JOHN ROBERTS is looking to avoid presiding over impeachment proceedings.

We’re hearing that Roberts, who for years has sought to keep the courts apolitical, was not happy he became a top target of the left during Trump’s first impeachment trial. “He wants no further part of this,” one of our Hill sources says. A spokesperson for the chief justice declined to comment when our Josh Gerstein reached out.

The Constitution delegates the chief justice to oversee impeachments of presidents, but this time around Trump will be an ex-president. That’s why lawmakers and aides were talking through the weekend about two other figures who historically have presided over lower-level impeachments: the vice president and the longest-serving member of the chamber. But would KAMALA HARRIS really want to do this in her first week on the job? If not, Sen. PATRICK LEAHY (D-Vt.) could be the guy.

If John Roberts opts out of Trump’s impeachment trial, it would all but guarantee a kangaroo court show trial with partisan hacks like Kamala Harris or Patrick Leahy presiding over the trial.

Of course, this is nothing new for Donald Trump.

He spent his entire Administration fighting against the Fake News Media, the Democrats, RINOs, and Deep State Operatives determined to undermine and take down his Presidency.

And now the fact that Kamala Harris may be presiding over Trump’s impeachment trial only confirms to the nearly 75,000,000 Americans who voted for Donald Trump that the system is corrupt to the core.
