Tom Selleck got hit with this devastating news and his legacy will suffer

Tom Selleck’s longtime co-star Donnie Wahlberg pleaded with the legendary film and television star to save them from exactly this situation.

After fifty years, things turned in an instant for fans of Tom Selleck.

And Tom Selleck got hit with this devastating news and his legacy will suffer as a result.

Tom Selleck fans wonder if it’s true and it’s really all over

Over the past decade, actor Tom Selleck has scaled back his workload to focus almost exclusively on reprising his long-held role as New York City Police Commissioner Frank Reagan on CBS’ Blue Bloods.

The show has run for 14 seasons now, becoming CBS’ most-watched primetime drama and a top-three drama in all of television with over 9.5 million viewers per episode.

And it’s no secret that its success is largely built on the fact that the show has always focused on honoring the sacrifices law enforcement officers, and their families, make on a daily basis.

But recently, the final episode of Blue Bloods aired as CBS had previously determined that the show had run its course after so many years on-air.

In an interview with Fox News, actor Donnie Wahlberg, who played the role of Selleck’s son, Detective Danny Reagan, said that once their director called “cut” on the final scene, the emotion of the moment hit the cast and crew like a ton of bricks.

“I think one thing that I think about from time to time is, when we finished filming the scene, the entire crew came into the Reagan house. And we’re all standing around. There’s a couple hundred people standing there. And it was quiet for a minute,” Wahlberg said.

“I think there was a long pause after they said ‘cut.’ And I think we all stood there or sat there kind of hoping that either, A, someone would say, ‘Hey, it’s all just a joke. We’re going to keep filming more episodes.’ Or B, everyone was hesitant because we knew once somebody started talking, we’d all become emotional,” he added.

What’s next after Blue bloods saga is over

Wahlberg also noted that he, Selleck, and the rest of the cast lobbied CBS to keep the show on the air, but were ultimately unsuccessful.

“I think one of the things we haven’t really talked about is having worked so long with the crew that we had in New York City. I personally — and I’m sure some of the other castmates — felt bad. I felt sad. Like, we tried to keep the show going. We tried to help the show carry on, and we couldn’t. We couldn’t do it. You know, we did everything we could, everything in our power, to have the show carry on,” Wahlberg continued.

When CBS announced that the show’s time on-air would be coming to an end last year, Selleck was vocal in his displeasure.

“I will continue to think that CBS will come to their senses,” Selleck said in an interview with CBS News. “We’re the third-highest scripted show in all of broadcast. We’re winning the night. All the cast wants to come back. And I can tell you this: we aren’t sliding off down a cliff. We’re doing good shows, and still holding our place. So, I don’t know. You tell me!”

But CBS never did change their minds.

Now, one of the most popular shows on television has come to an end.

And that’s left Tom Selleck having to figure out for the first time in a long time exactly what he’ll do next – if anything.
