Corey Lewandowski has a reputation for losing his temper.
He once physically grabbed a Breitbart reporter who asked Trump a question.
Now we know he tried to fire a U.S. Coast Guard pilot thousands of feet in the air because someone forgot Kristi Noem's blanket.
When The Pilot Came Out Of The Cockpit To See What The Screaming Was About
Kristi Noem had to switch planes mid-trip last year after her first aircraft broke down.
Her personal blanket didn't make the transfer.
When Lewandowski found out, he started yelling at Coast Guard flight staff and threatening to fire them.
The pilot came out of the cockpit to see what was happening.
Lewandowski demanded the plane turn around immediately to retrieve Noem's blanket.
The pilot refused.
Lewandowski announced the pilot was relieved of duty right there in the air.
Reality Hit When The Pilot Explained Federal Aviation Rules
The pilot calmly explained FAA regulations to Lewandowski.
If he was fired mid-flight, he would need to land the plane immediately.
They would have to sit on the tarmac while waiting for another qualified pilot to continue the mission to Washington.
Lewandowski backed down.
The pilot kept his job for exactly as long as it took to get Noem and Lewandowski home.
This Is What Happens When Personal Drama Undermines National Security
Trump gave Lewandowski and Noem one job: secure the border and protect the homeland.
Instead they're throwing tantrums over blankets and creating chaos inside DHS.
Workplace abuse experts say this kind of behavior follows a clear pattern—people who misuse authority do it to reinforce power and control narratives.
Lewandowski has built his career on exactly this kind of intimidation.
He once strong-armed ICE officials into giving him a federal badge and gun by threatening their careers.
When one official refused, Lewandowski passed him over for the top job.
He eventually got other lawyers to sign off by using the ICE director's autopen without permission.
While Trump focuses on fixing the border crisis Biden created, his DHS secretary and her adviser are busy with blanket drama.
Trump Sees The Problem But The Relationship Continues
When asked aboard Air Force One this week about reports of Lewandowski and Noem's relationship, Trump downplayed it publicly.
But he knows exactly what's going on.
Trump regularly mentions in private that he caught them drinking from the same soda can.
He's a known germaphobe, so it stuck with him.
"You can't do that, it's pretty obvious!" he reportedly said.
"You can't do that, everyone's going to know!"
Wall Street Journal reporting confirms Trump has been uncomfortable with their relationship for months.
Lewandowski wanted to be Noem's official chief of staff.
Trump blocked it specifically because of the affair rumors.
But Lewandowski operates as her de facto chief anyway, with massive power over DHS operations.
Trump's instincts were right—he just didn't go far enough in shutting it down.
The Pattern Of Retaliation Against Anyone Who Questions Lewandowski
When Customs and Border Protection Commissioner Rodney Scott told Lewandowski his 130-day limit as a special government employee had expired, Lewandowski and Noem retaliated immediately.
They reassigned Scott's chief of staff and pressured his deputy chief to resign.
When former FEMA administrator Cameron Hamilton testified to Congress that eliminating FEMA wasn't in Americans' best interest, Lewandowski summoned him to Noem's office the next day.
Hamilton was probably wrong but Lewandowski fired him while sitting at Noem's desk.
This is the man who has operational control of DHS while technically being a temporary adviser limited to 130 days per year.
Multiple sources say he deliberately avoids swiping his badge to hide how many days he's actually working.
While Lewandowski Plays Palace Intrigue, The Border Mission Suffers
Trump ran on securing the border and deporting criminal illegal aliens.
He gave DHS the mission and the resources to get it done.
Instead of executing that mission, Lewandowski and Noem have turned the department into a reality show.
They're firing pilots over blankets, demanding luxury jets with private cabins, and retaliating against anyone who questions their authority.
Career officials who know how to secure borders are being replaced with loyalists who know how to stay quiet about the affair.
DHS has fired or demoted roughly 80 percent of career ICE field leadership since Noem and Lewandowski took over.
That's not draining the swamp—that's destroying institutional knowledge while Americans wait for the border to be secured.
Trump's right to question this relationship.
It's not about personal moral judgments.
It's about two people letting their drama sabotage the mission Trump was elected to accomplish.
