Trey Gowdy came UNGLUED over GOP Speaker’s contest

Former Congressman turned Fox News weekend host Trey Gowdy has a strange Jekyll and Hyde thing going on.

At times he seems to be a conservative firebrand fighting the establishment and at others he’s the ultimate establishment hack.

But this time Trey Gowdy went full establishment hack with this rant against principled House conservatives.

While Congressional Republicans should be focused on stopping Democrats from passing more of their socialist agenda during the lame duck session, they’re fighting amongst themselves.

With Republicans taking back the House in the Midterms, they have to decide who will replace outgoing Speaker of the House Nancy Pelosi (D-CA).

But after the GOP underperformed spectacularly in last month’s elections, many conservatives are rightly taking a stand against the establishment’s handpicked Speaker candidate, House Minority Leader Kevin McCarthy (R-CA), who oversaw the Midterm disaster.

GOP establishment elites contend that because Rep. McCarthy won the votes of 85% of Republicans in the House to become the leader of the GOP conference, every Republican should automatically throw their support behind him to avoid the worst case scenario in which the Party fails to get the 218 votes needed to elect one of their own as Speaker.

The entire reason Republicans only have 222 seats in the new Congress and can’t afford to have more than four McCarthy detractors within the Party is because of the failed leadership of establishment elite hacks like McCarthy, though.

So far, at least five House conservatives – Reps. Andy Biggs (R-AZ), Matt Gaetz (R-FL), Ralph Norman (R-SC), Matt Rosendale (R-MT), and Bob Good (R-VA) – have confirmed they will not vote for McCarthy.

And that reality has caused former Congressman turned Fox News weekend host Trey Gowdy to unleash his inner establishment hack and rip House conservatives as some sort of “traitors” to the almighty GOP.

“Rather than coalescing around a legislative or investigative agenda, House Republicans are fighting with themselves over who will be the Speaker,” Gowdy began. “Yes, your memory is correct. The primary for Speaker was a month ago. Kevin McCarthy won with 85% of the vote. But a small yet vocal group of House Republicans will not support the winner of the primary.”

What exactly the “primary for Speaker” is that Gowdy speaks of, no one actually knows, as not a single vote for Speaker has been cast, only votes for the GOP conference positions.

It has been a while since Gowdy was in the House, so maybe he just forgot how the process works.

But he did go home to claim that opposing Kevin McCarthy for Speaker of the House is the exact same thing as believing former President Donald Trump won the 2020 election.

“So much for elections having consequences or respecting the will of the people or whatever platitudes uttered but only when convenient,” Gowdy added. “This small band of Republican kamikazes are convinced Donald Trump won the Presidency in 2020 with 47% of the vote, yet somehow Kevin McCarthy lost the Speaker’s race with 85% of the vote.”

“Math never was their strong suit,” he continued.

Again, “the Speaker’s race” isn’t over yet – not a single vote has even been cast yet.

But this is Trey Gowdy’s typical schtick.

He loves to talk a good game and pretend that he’s somehow conservatives’ “moral compass,” but in reality he’s just another establishment hack, like so many Fox News talking heads.

That’s why he fought so hard for red flag gun confiscation laws and for the Deep State mass surveillance programs that have trampled on Americans’ God-given rights, while claiming to “defend the Constitution.”

To go along with what Gowdy and the rest of the establishment want, House Republicans have to do exactly what they’ve been doing every two years for decades – simply lining up like robots behind the next establishment hack in line for “leadership” – while expecting a different result than all the failures the Party has already experienced.

For those unaware, that’s the definition of insanity.

But that’s exactly what Trey Gowdy and the Republican establishment elites want.
