President Donald Trump confirmed aboard Air Force One Monday that he received an MRI during his October visit to Walter Reed National Military Medical Center.¹
“It was perfect, yeah,” Trump told reporters while traveling to Tokyo.¹
“I mean, I gave you the full results. We had an MRI and the machine, you know, the whole thing. And it was perfect.”¹
This marks the first time Trump has explained why he underwent a second medical examination this year just six months after his April physical.
The October checkup came after photos circulated showing swelling in Trump’s legs and bruising on his hand.
White House Press Secretary Karoline Leavitt previously explained that the swelling resulted from chronic venous insufficiency, a common condition in older adults where blood pools in the veins.²
The bruising on Trump’s hand came from frequent handshaking combined with aspirin use as part of his cardiovascular prevention regimen.²
Trump’s physician Navy Captain Sean Barbabella released a statement after the October exam declaring Trump remains in “exceptional health, exhibiting strong cardiovascular, pulmonary, neurological, and physical performance.”³
The physical included advanced imaging, lab testing, and consultations with multiple specialists.
Trump also received a flu shot and a COVID-19 booster during the visit³ – a move that seemed to shock many on the right despite Trump having set project Warp Speed in motion in the first place.
