Neither party’s establishments were prepared when Donald Trump started taking their hand-picked candidates down in 2016.
But the grassroots Republican base has been disappointed repeatedly ever since Trump listened to one major piece of bad advice which evidently came from his first White House chief of staff Reince Priebus, and tried to buy off the Mitt Romney establishment wing of the Party.
His move just weeks before he was sworn in as President to appoint Romney’s niece, Ronna Romney McDaniel to replace Priebus – also a well-known RINO himself – as Republican National Committee (RNC) Chair has been an unmitigated disaster in virtually every conservatives’ eyes.
Republicans have largely failed in election cycle after election cycle as McDaniel and co drove GOP voter mobilization and messaging.
But despite disastrous RNC picks, Trump fortunately kicked off a political reckoning with a deeper bench than establishment elites ever fathomed.
During the most recent GOP Presidential Primary debate, one of the men on stage vying to be the 2024 Republican nominee, Vivek Ramaswamy, dropped a major truth bomb.
And now the movement Ramaswamy started with his call to action is turning into a full-blown trend and that trend is growing larger by the day.
The Miami debate happened right on the heels of the Republican Party losing races and ballot measures all over the country in the 2023 off-year elections.
With the failures fresh on his mind, Ramaswamy held nothing back in what the establishment media has since labeled a “tirade.”
The tech and finance entrepreneur used his opening debate statement to unload his mic-drop moment.
“I think there’s something deeper going on in the Republican Party here, and I am upset about what happened last night,” Ramaswamy said in reference to Republicans’ embarrassing showing in the 2023 off-year elections. “We’ve become a party of losers, at the end of the day with the cancer of the Republican establishment. Let’s speak the truth. Since Ronna McDaniel took over as chairwoman of the RNC in 2017, we have lost 2018, 2020, 2022, no red wave, that never came. We got trounced last night in 2023. And I think that we have to have accountability in our party.”
At that point, Ramaswamy issued a challenge that stole the show.
“For that matter, Ronna, if you want to come on stage tonight, you want to look the voters in the eye and tell them you resign, I’ll turn over and yield my time to you,” Ramaswamy continued.
Of course, McDaniel didn’t take the stage – nor does she have any intention of turning over the power she’s obtained in the party, no matter how often she fails.
But as McDaniel maintains her power, Ramaswamy’s call for a change is spreading.
The latest to jump to the front of the bandwagon is conservative commentator, and novelist Kurt Schlichter.
Schlichter minced no words tearing into McDaniel’s record as RNC Chair in his column, titled simply, Resign Ronna!
“How much failure is enough failure, because Republicans have had a lot of failure lately and we’re looking forward to more failure next year and perhaps we ought to do something to start getting ourselves on the road to the opposite of failure,” Schlichter began his article. “And the opposite of failure is the opposite of Ronna McDaniel.”
Schlichter accuses McDaniel of being incompetent and incapable of leading the GOP to a winning election cycle.
In a message directed straight to McDaniel, Schlichter, senior columnist for Townhall, speculates that many Republican leaders, including McDaniel, actually prefer losing elections.
“Next year is important to the rest of us,” Schlichter wrote to McDaniel. “I understand that, at some level, many in the Republican Party’s professional class, like yourself, do fine being in the minority. Dem overreach makes fundraising easy. You don’t have any responsibility for governing. As your career so far has demonstrated, there’s no accountability for failing to do your job, so losing is a pretty sweet deal for you.”
Schlichter added that since former President Donald Trump put McDaniel into power, he should join Ramaswamy’s call for her ouster so the Party can move forward.
“Donald Trump was your behind the scenes endorser and supporter – to those who don’t believe it, I was there and I watched his chief of staff personally lobbying people to vote for Ronna, so don’t tell me Donald Trump had nothing to do with it,” Schlichter continued. “But the fact is that Ronna McDaniel has become a giant embarrassment for Donald Trump because he picked her. Donald Trump should get on the phone and call her and say … well, didn’t he have a catchphrase that he once made popular? What was that? Oh yeah. You’re fired!”
