It couldn’t be more clear that despite spending trillions of dollars every year and constantly expanding its power, the U.S. government is completely incompetent and ineffective.
Yet despite promising voters that they’ll do something about it every two years, establishment Republicans always find an excuse to simply sit on their hands.
And now, with the September 30 deadline for Congress to fund the federal government and avoid a government shutdown fast approaching, Speaker of the House Kevin McCarthy (R-CA) and his fellow establishment RINOs are pushing for yet another Continuing Resolution to simply kick the can down the road once again.
McCarthy’s only issue is the fact that the national debt is now roughly $33 trillion, and conservatives are drawing a line in the sand.
The House Freedom Caucus has already completely rejected the idea of a Continuing Resolution and is demanding that Speaker McCarthy actually use the power of the purse Republicans have as the House majority to address Democrats’ efforts to force woke extremism on the military and their weaponization of government.
“We refuse to support any such measure that continues Democrats’ bloated COVID-era spending and simultaneously fails to force the Biden Administration to follow the law and fulfill its most basic responsibilities,” the Freedom Caucus wrote in a statement. “Any support for a ‘clean’ Continuing Resolution would be an affirmation of the current FY 2023 spending level grossly increased by the lame-duck December 2022 omnibus spending bill that we all vehemently opposed just seven months ago.”
And now, Florida Governor Ron DeSantis has joined the chorus of conservatives against McCarthy’s kick the can down the road again approach, pointing out that it’s the only way the out-of-control, authoritarian ruling class elites will ever be reined in.
“On the government funding, I mean the way I look at it is this government is spending way too much money, they’ve locked in the covid era levels of spending which are totally unsustainable so they should absolutely have a big fight over righting that ship,” DeSantis told Fox News. “But then you also have the issue of their funding of really bad policies.”
“So for example, Biden’s border policies are causing a massive influx of illegal aliens, they’re causing a massive influx of fentanyl, human trafficking, sex trafficking, the Department of Justice and the FBI with the weaponization,” he added.
DeSantis also took aim at the Democrat-controlled federal government’s targeting of “observant Catholics as potential terrorists,” as well as the FBI’s targeting of “parents going to school board meetings,” explaining that “the power of the purse is really the way that you hold those agencies accountable.”
He added that he is of the belief that the primary reason Democrats were able to weaponize the government is because of Congress’ refusal to utilize the power of the purse.
“So some of the guys in the House like Chip Roy who are raising the alarm about this I think are right and I think that part of the reason our bureaucracy is so out of control and this Deep State has developed is because Congress has not been willing to use the power of the purse to discipline these agencies,” DeSantis continued.
The Governor went on to post video of his full comments on X, and included a call for Republicans to fight out-of-control government.

And while he’s 100% correct, the sad reality is no member of the Republican establishment will ever take Ron DeSantis’ advice.
Because at the end of the day, establishment Republicans would much prefer keeping their status amongst the ruling class elites than actually do what is right for the country.
