No one knows when or even if the hit series Yellowstone will ever return after a long pause between the first and second half of its fifth season.

And now the future of the series’ biggest star is back in the limelight.

Because Yellowstone fans are clamoring for answers after Kevin Costner made one huge announcement.

The highly-anticipated final episodes of the Paramount Network’s hit show Yellowstone is still a mystery.

The final half of season five is rumored to begin shooting later this spring after being delayed for well over a year due to the Hollywood writers’ strike.

And the show’s star, actor Kevin Costner, who plays the main character, John Dutton, had a fallout with the show’s creator, Taylor Sheridan.

Costner had demanded that his already limited schedule for shooting the second half of season five be reduced even further.

It even seemed Costner was willing to walk away from Yellowstone in the middle of the season, leaving fans as well as the cast and crew completely hanging, to prioritize another project he wanted to do.

Costner’s new two-part Western saga set to debut in France

The Academy Award-winning actor recently announced on social media that his ‘Western epic Horizon: An American Saga’ will debut at the Cannes Film Festival in May.

Costner co-wrote the script, directed, and starred in the epic film.

“I’d like to thank the Festival de Cannes for including my film Horizon: An American Saga in this year’s selection,” Costner wrote. “It’s been 20 years since I’ve had the pleasure of being on the Croisette. I’ve been waiting for the right time to return and I’m proud to say that this time has come.”

Costner will be heading to France to promote the film at the very time Yellowstone is rumored to begin production again.

“#HorizonAmericanSaga is a story that began 35 years ago, and I can’t think of a better place than Cannes to reveal to the world the result of such a wonderful adventure. The French have always supported films and believed deeply in filmmaking. Just as I believe deeply in my film,” Costner added.

The first movie in the series, Chapter One, will be released in the U.S. on June 28, with Chapter Two set for release on August 28.

Costner says he wants to make two more films to complete the epic that begins during the Civil War era and focuses on the settlement of the American West.

He’s been working on the concept since 1988 and has called it his passion project.

Costner poured his soul into this latest huge project

Documents in Costner’s divorce from his ex-wife Christine Baumgartner revealed that he put up $20 million of his own money into making Horizon.

“A career-making movie for me,” Costner claimed. “I’ll never forget my joy at finally being in a Western movie. It had been my life’s dream since being glued to my seat watching How the West Was Won when I was seven years old. I have that same joy right now, working on Horizon. The story we’re telling has been on my heart for nearly two decades and it’ll be yours in just a couple of months. I hope you’ll love it like I do.”

It now appears Costner was willing to sacrifice his role in Yellowstone to make his passion project.

And his unwillingness to postpone his self-promotion of his latest project is causing Yellowstone fans, and all of those he worked with on the series, serious concerns over the return of the show.
