The FBI Raided the Office of Abigail Spanberger’s Most Powerful Ally and What They Found Next Door Changes Everything

While staffers were ordered onto the sidewalk, federal agents worked through a Virginia state senator's office and a SWAT team hit the business next door.

That senator is Louise Lucas – the most powerful Democrat in Virginia and Abigail Spanberger's closest political ally.

What triggered a federal judge to sign those warrants has been hiding in plain sight since 2022.

FBI Executes Sweeping Raids Across Multiple Virginia Locations

Federal agents hit Lucas's Portsmouth office Wednesday morning with court-authorized criminal search warrants, ordered staffers outside, and spent hours removing boxes from the building.

That was just the start.

A SWAT team simultaneously descended on the Cannabis Outlet – a marijuana dispensary next door that Lucas co-owns – with weapons drawn.

At least three people were taken into custody in handcuffs at the dispensary.

The raids extended beyond Portsmouth to at least ten other locations across Virginia, including another cannabis shop on Granby Street in Norfolk.

This was an operation that stretched across the entire state – multiple locations, SWAT teams, an Evidence Response Team photographing scenes, and agents carrying boxes out of a sitting senator's office.

Lucas herself arrived during the raid. A reporter approached her car in a nearby parking lot. She turned away and the car drove off.

Federal law enforcement sources told Fox News the investigation centers on corruption and illegal marijuana sales. ABC News, citing three sources familiar with the matter, confirmed the probe was opened during the Biden administration. The investigation examines allegations of potential corruption and bribery connected to marijuana dispensary businesses.

A federal judge signed off on every search warrant.

Lucas Has Been Selling More Than What Virginia Law Allows

This is not Louise Lucas's first problem with her cannabis business.

In 2022, an investigation by the Virginia Mercury found that 65 of the 66 products at Lucas's Cannabis Outlet contained illegal quantities of delta-9 THC – a controlled substance in Virginia at the time.

One product – a "Lucky Charms" cereal bar featuring a stoned leprechaun – advertised 600 milligrams of THC.

When a reporter confronted Lucas about selling a controlled substance, her answer was stunning. "I sell hemp products and CBD," she said – about a store that lab testing proved was selling illegal THC products on 65 out of 66 items tested.

She refused to answer follow-up questions and chastised the reporter for asking.

Stack that track record on top of a federal corruption and bribery probe opened under Joe Biden's own Justice Department – and the picture of what Virginia Democrats have been protecting for decades comes into focus.

The Pattern Virginia Democrats Have Been Protecting

Virginia state Delegate Wren Williams didn't mince words after the raids. "Rumors of corruption and pay-to-play politics have long surrounded the Democratic Party's infrastructure in Virginia," he told Fox News Digital. "However, no one has been willing to do anything to hold these power brokers accountable."

Then he said the quiet part out loud.

"When the chief of police and prosecutor tried to hold Senator Lucas accountable for her actions last time, each were removed from office shortly thereafter."

That's not a talking point. That's documented history.

When Portsmouth Police Chief Angela Greene charged Lucas with two felonies after a 2020 Confederate monument incident, Greene was placed on leave and fired. The charges against Lucas were dismissed. The prosecutor who moved against her is gone. Everyone who touched accountability lost their job – and Lucas walked away with 34 more years of unchecked power over Virginia's budget, its redistricting maps, and now apparently its marijuana market.

That is the story the FBI just blew open.

Virginia Governor Abigail Spanberger – who Lucas stumped for on the campaign trail just months ago – issued five sentences and ran. Her spokesperson confirmed only that the governor "is aware of today's law enforcement operation in Portsmouth" and would not comment further.

Spanberger is already facing collapsing poll numbers after critics accused her of ramming a far-left agenda through a state that was only recently competitive. Her silence today is the loudest thing she's said in months.

The probe opened under Biden strips Democrats of their only defense. The warrants were signed by a federal judge. At least three people were arrested at the dispensary.

Every official who tried to hold Louise Lucas accountable paid a price. Today, it cost her instead.
