The left spent years telling you their people were the peaceful ones.
Now a Democrat running for Congress just pulled a firearm on two government workers inside a county building.
Here's what happened next – and why it fits a pattern the media refuses to name.
Kirill Basin Was Arrested for Terroristic Threatening After Pulling a Gun Inside a Government Building
Kirill Basin, 40, is a Democrat running for Hawaii's 2nd Congressional District.
On the morning of May 29, he walked into a Maui County government building in Wailuku and brandished his gun at two county employees during an argument.
Then he ran.
Police weren't notified for an hour and a half.
When they finally tracked Basin down at his home in Kīhei, he was charged with Terroristic Threatening in the First Degree.
His bail was set at $250,000.
This wasn't impulsive.
Basin had been coming apart for days – and by the time he walked into that building, there was already a documented trail of confrontations, threats, and police interventions behind him.
Restraining Order, Threatening Texts, and Three Run-Ins With Police in 30 Days
Two days before the gun incident, Basin showed up to a South Maui town hall meeting and got into a screaming argument with Council Member Tom Cook and his staff.
Police had to escort him out of the building.
He wasn't done.
Basin confronted Cook's executive assistant, Jared Agtunong, in the parking lot – forcing police to intervene a second time.
Then came the texts.
In the days that followed, Basin called Agtunong and left a voicemail calling him "a piece of trash" and telling him to "think of my family."
Later that night, the messages turned darker.
Basin texted Agtunong to wish him luck with prison, then closed out the evening with a single line: "you're f–ked."
A judge granted Agtunong's restraining order petition within two hours of filing.
Basin had also been arrested on May 2 for disorderly conduct – nearly a month before the gun incident.
Three separate run-ins with law enforcement in less than 30 days, and he was still walking around with a firearm.
Left-Wing Political Violence Hit a 30-Year High in 2025 and Democrats Are Still Pretending It Is Not Happening
Here's what the media won't tell you.
The New York Post reported on a Center for Strategic and International Studies study showing left-wing attacks outnumbered right-wing attacks in 2025 – the first time that's happened in over 30 years.
The study found that opposition to the Trump administration was directly fueling the violence – attacks targeting both political leadership and the institutions carrying out Trump's agenda.
The day before his arrest, Basin posted his own lawsuit on Instagram, claiming police had "tortured him for 14 hours" through "prolonged and deliberate infliction of physical, sexual and psychological abuse."
He filed it without an attorney.
Basin isn't a fringe protester or an anonymous extremist.
He put his face on a campaign website, announced he was running for Congress, and presented himself as a legitimate voice for Hawaii voters.
Then he pulled a gun on county workers.
Democrat Candidates Are Getting Arrested and the Media Keeps Changing the Subject
The media will cover this as a local crime story, run one cycle, and move on.
They did the same when Charlie Kirk's alleged killer scrawled "Hey fascist, catch this" on a shell casing before pulling the trigger.
They did the same when the man who shot Minnesota state Rep. Melissa Hortman and her husband turned out to be a Democrat who had been appointed to a state board by Tim Walz.
Every time: Democrat commits political violence, coverage emphasizes mental illness, story disappears in 48 hours.
Maui Police Chief John Pelletier called Basin's actions what they were: "The Maui Police Department will not compromise public safety, and incidents of this nature are taken extremely seriously in Maui County."
Basin walked into a government building, pointed a loaded weapon at two people doing their jobs, and told a civilian to think about his family before texting him "you're f–ked."
That's exactly what happens when a political party spends years telling its followers that the people on the other side are fascists who deserve whatever they get.
