Now a leaked memo shows that panic has turned into open civil war.
A California Democrat chair just accused her own party of lying to her face.
NRCC Memo Details a Democrat Civil War Playing Out in Real Time
The National Republican Congressional Committee dropped a memo Sunday marking exactly 100 days until Election Day.
The headline number should terrify Hakeem Jeffries.
Mamdani backed candidates Claire Valdez, Brad Lander, and Darializa Avila Chevalier already swept their New York primaries this summer, and two of them knocked out sitting Democratic incumbents to do it.
That is the wing of the party currently setting the terms for 2026.
Republicans are sitting on a $13.7 million cash advantage over the Democratic Congressional Campaign Committee.
That is the strongest financial position the NRCC has held in two decades.
But the money is not even the worst part of this memo for Democrats.
Buried inside is a story about a California Democratic Party chair who says the DCCC lied straight to her face.
"They lied to all of us," the chair said, describing DCCC staff promises to stay neutral in a primary.
Those promises did not survive contact with reality.
The DCCC has now blown its neutrality pledge in California, Arizona, and Maine – and lost every single one of those primaries.
Some House Democrats are so furious they are threatening to stop paying their DCCC dues entirely.
The committee's own numbers show barely half of expected member dues had come in by early April.
Close to thirty members sitting in safe seats have not sent the DCCC a dime.
Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez, one of the committee's biggest dues payers, is publicly pushing back on the DCCC's habit of picking sides in primaries.
When AOC is telling your own campaign arm to knock it off, you have a problem.
Committee spokesman Mike Marinella framed it as a momentum play, betting Democrats will spend the next hundred days playing defense on their own record.
The memo put it bluntly – "the next 100 days won't be easy, they'll be a knife fight."
That kind of talk only works if the map cooperates.
Republicans Locked In the Map While Democrats Fought Each Other
While Democrats were busy torching their own campaign committee, Republicans were busy rewriting the map.
Texas Gov. Greg Abbott signed a new congressional map last year designed to hand Republicans five additional seats.
The Supreme Court upheld that Texas map 6 to 3 in April – locking in the GOP's gain through at least 2030.
Missouri followed with its own redraw, targeting Democrat Emanuel Cleaver's Kansas City district for a Republican pickup.
Ohio's redistricting commission delivered Republicans a 12 to 3 advantage in a state that used to run 10 to 5.
Democrats tried to fire back with a California countermap and a special election gambit in Virginia.
Virginia's attempt collapsed in court.
Republicans believe they could still net as many as 14 additional seats once every map fight finishes playing out.
The NRCC's memo puts a number on the battlefield – 72 competitive districts, 26 of them currently held by Democrats.
Trump carried 56 of those 72 districts back in 2024.
That is the map Jeffries has to defend, and it only gets harder from here.
Democrats Are Beating Themselves Before Republicans Even Show Up
Democrats want you to believe this election is a referendum on Trump.
It is actually a referendum on whether the Democratic Party can stop eating itself alive before November.
NRSC spokeswoman Bernadette Breslin nailed the real 2026 message when she warned Democrats want to export New York's "commie corridor" to a state near you.
That is not a talking point – it is a preview of what happens if socialists like Zohran Mamdani set the tone for the whole party.
Every dollar Jeffries spends explaining away his own committee's broken promises is a dollar he cannot spend defending 26 frontline seats.
Every House Democrat withholding dues out of spite is one less dollar on the battlefield in November.
Republicans do not need a miracle to hold the House.
History says the president's party almost always loses seats in a midterm, and Republicans know that math better than anyone.
That is exactly why the NRCC spent this memo building its own firewall instead of pretending the history books don't exist.
A three seat majority is thin, but a record cash advantage and a rewritten map make it a lot harder to erase.
Jeffries can call the next 100 days whatever he wants.
Right now his own troops are calling his campaign committee liars and refusing to pay their bills.
They need Democrats to keep doing exactly what they are already doing to themselves.
