Democrats spent a year blaming everyone but themselves for their 2024 wipeout.
Now their own finances tell the real story of a party in freefall.
Chairman Ken Martin just proved it in a way even Democrats can't defend.
DNC Puts Its Own Building on the Line for $15 Million
The Democratic National Committee pledged its own Washington headquarters as collateral to secure a $15 million loan.
D.C. deed records show the DNC put up its partially owned building in Southeast Washington to back the credit line.
The committee reportedly took out the loan in October 2025 to fund off-year races and prepare for the 2026 midterms.
It was reportedly the largest off-year loan in DNC history.
Fox News reporting puts the actual credit line at $20 million, with $15 million drawn against the pledged headquarters.
The DNC never told the Federal Election Commission its building was the collateral.
Reporters had to dig through property records to find that out, because the DNC never volunteered it.
That's not transparency.
That's a party hoping nobody checks the paperwork.
As of June 30, the DNC's own FEC filing showed about $16.3 million on hand versus more than $18.5 million owed.
The Republican National Committee has about $128 million in cash and zero debt.
Democrats aren't just behind.
They're mortgaging the building to stay in the race.
Things are so tight that party officials reportedly asked vendors to hold off on sending their bills until after the midterms.
That's not fiscal management.
That's a household stuffing overdue notices in a drawer and hoping nobody opens it.
A DNC official tried to wave it off, insisting the building had backed prior lines of credit going back to 2014.
Rattling off old years like 2019, 2018, and 2014 doesn't make it less alarming.
That's the defense.
We've always been broke, so this isn't news.
House Majority Leader Steve Scalise wasn't buying the spin.
He pointed out that Democrats had to put their own headquarters up as collateral.
They still think they know how to spend your money better than you do.
Chairman's Meltdown Exposes a Party Coming Apart at the Seams
The money trouble isn't the only thing falling apart inside DNC headquarters.
Chairman Ken Martin reportedly threw his phone at a junior aide's desk in early July while berating the young staffer.
The outburst triggered a formal human resources complaint.
Fox News reported that Martin's nerves were visibly fraying under the pressure of the job.
One DNC source close to the situation called it "spiraling behavior."
This is a chairman cracking under the weight of a party he can't stabilize.
Martin has also lashed out at his own staff over leaks, complaining that reporters keep getting details on how bad things really are inside DNC headquarters.
The leaks kept coming anyway.
A DNC member, granted anonymity, said Martin has been "gaslighting" the committee over its money problems.
That member said the episode is exactly why they question whether he can steer the party through the biggest primary season of their careers.
Martin has reportedly cut himself off from all but a tiny inner circle as the pressure mounts.
A chairman that isolated, that far behind on cash, and that quick to lose his temper is not a coincidence.
It's a pattern of a man in over his head.
His standing took another hit after the party's botched rollout of its 2024 election autopsy, according to Fox News.
He has largely stayed out of public interviews since, and has even taken to joking about whether he'll keep the job.
The Democrats Are Broke and Everyone Inside Knows It
Democrats can call the collateral arrangement routine all they want.
Routine or not, it's happening while the party can't even keep its own vendors paid on time.
One party spent the year building a financial advantage.
The other spent it mortgaging its front door and watching its chairman throw a phone.
That contrast tells voters everything about which party actually has its act together heading into November.
