Joe Biden's Washington quietly overcharged nearly a million Americans for Obamacare.
Now the Treasury Department is cutting checks to fix it.
That letter arriving in nearly a million mailboxes carries one detail Democrats never wanted you to see.
Trump's Letter Puts Biden's Obamacare Math On Full Display
Nearly 950,000 Americans across 30 states are opening their mailboxes this week to find a $500 check and a letter signed by President Trump himself.
"For years, the Biden administration overcharged you to fund the operation of HealthCare.gov," the letter reads.
The letter goes on to tell recipients that money was theirs all along, and that he's simply handing it back.
The money comes from a surplus of "user fees" that HealthCare.gov charged insurers for years – fees that got baked straight into your premium.
Texas families lead the list with 139,000 checks.
Florida is next with 127,900.
Ohio, North Carolina and Michigan round out the top five.
Here's what Biden's defenders won't tell you.
This isn't the first time Washington has dangled an Obamacare "rebate" in front of American families.
Back in 2012 and 2013, the law's medical loss ratio provision produced a wave of so-called rebate checks that the media hyped as a windfall.
Most of those checks turned out to be tiny, and millions of families got nothing at all while premiums climbed anyway.
HHS itself bragged in 2013 that the average family got back exactly $100.
Some states saw rebates as low as $43 a person.
Trump's $500 check is five times that old average, and it's landing in mailboxes months before an election instead of years into an administration nobody could hold accountable.
Trump's refund is different because it's real money, tied to a real surplus, going out before Democrats can spin it.
And the irony gets thicker when you look at who's screaming "election stunt" the loudest.
Kathy Hochul just queued up $200 rebate checks for more than eight million New Yorkers, landing right before Election Day.
Gavin Newsom ran the same play during his 2021 recall fight in California.
Democrats built the rebate-check playbook – they just never expected a Republican to run it better.
A Fraud Purge Exposes How The Numbers Got This Bad
That refund surplus is one problem.
Fraud is a separate one, and it's just as bad.
Vice President JD Vance announced just over a week ago that his Fraud Task Force is removing roughly 750,000 people from Obamacare rolls, saving taxpayers an estimated $2.2 billion.
CMS Administrator Dr. Mehmet Oz said investigators found enrollees with no Social Security number, no claims history, and in some cases no verifiable existence at all.
Oz called them "phantoms."
Investigators traced one scheme back to just 40 insurance agents who, between them, had signed up 50,000 bogus enrollees.
House Republicans point to Congressional Budget Office data showing the rot runs even deeper, with 2.3 million Obamacare enrollees improperly claiming premium tax credits in 2025 alone.
That single finding points to $185 billion in savings once Republican reforms fully take hold.
These aren't the same dollars funding your $500 check – but they're proof of the same broken system Biden left running on autopilot.
Schumer's 43 Day Shutdown Was Fighting To Protect This Exact Mess
Here's the part that fires people up the most: Democrats spent a decade lecturing Americans that Obamacare was sacred, untouchable, the greatest achievement of the Obama years.
Turns out the greatest achievement was running a surplus off your premium while fraudsters drained billions more.
Chuck Schumer and Senate Democrats shut the government down for 43 days last year demanding more subsidy money get shoveled into this same system – not less fraud, not more accountability, just more cash.
That shutdown fight failed, the enhanced subsidies expired anyway, and now Trump is the one writing families a personal check to soften the blow Democrats caused.
This is also a preview of the midterms.
Republicans in swing districts have been bracing for a healthcare attack ad all year, and Trump just handed nearly a million voters in 30 states a reason to open their mailbox and feel like someone in Washington is finally on their side.
Democrats can call it a gimmick all they want, but their own governors wrote that playbook first.
The difference is Trump's check comes with his name on it, an explanation of who overcharged you, and a fraud purge to make sure it doesn't happen again.
