Armed Father Hunted Down Oregon School Shooter While Democrats Demanded Gun Control

A teenage gunman opened fire inside an Oregon elementary school and killed three children and their teacher.

While police raced to the scene, one armed father refused to wait for them to arrive.

What that father did inside the building is now the one detail Democrats cannot explain away.

Bend Oregon Father Stops Silver Rail Elementary Shooter Before Police Arrive

Kaylub Giamanco had two kids at Silver Rail Elementary School in Bend, Oregon, on October 15, 2026.

When a teenager walked in with a shotgun stolen from his own mother, Giamanco didn't wait for a 911 operator to tell him what to do.

He went in after the shooter himself, found him inside the gun-free building the Bend-La Pine school district had designed to keep guns out, and shot him dead.

Three children and a teacher were already gone by the time it was over.

But everyone else in that school went home because an armed citizen – not a sign on the door, not a school district policy – stopped the killing.

Gun Owners of America's Aidan Johnston put it plainly: "What did stop the mass murderer and save lives was an armed bystander with good aim."

In the hours after the shooting, Oregon Sen. Ron Wyden was calling for "commonsense gun laws," and Senate Armed Services ranking member Jack Reed demanded the Supreme Court reverse course on Second Amendment rulings.

Neither one mentioned that the law Oregon already has on the books – a 2021 measure letting school districts ban concealed carry on campus – is exactly what almost got more kids killed.

John Lott of the Crime Prevention Research Center has tracked this pattern for years, and Bend just proved it again.

"These gun-free zones actually serve as a magnet for these attacks rather than stopping them from occurring," Lott told Fox News Digital.

Before Oregon's 2021 rule, teachers with concealed carry permits could legally carry on campus – now roughly 25 of the state's 197 districts ban it outright, and Bend-La Pine is one of them.

Gun Free Zone and Concealed Carry Laws Take Center Stage After Oregon Shooting

This isn't the first time an armed citizen has done what a background check or a red-flag law never could.

In December 2019, a volunteer security member named Jack Wilson stood up inside West Freeway Church of Christ in White Settlement, Texas, and killed an armed attacker in seconds before he could slaughter the congregation.

A Tarrant County grand jury cleared Wilson without a single charge, and Texas later honored him with the state's highest civilian award.

The pattern is the same every time: a killer picks a place he believes is defenseless, and the only thing that stops him fast enough is someone already standing there with a gun.

The NRA says 94 percent of mass shootings since 1950 happened in gun-free zones, and Bend just added another data point to that pile.

Lott's research center has spent a decade documenting that armed citizens stop more active shooters than police do, because police have to drive there first.

Giamanco didn't have that problem.

He was already inside the building his own kids attend.

What Oregon's Own Gun Law Almost Cost These Kids

Democrats had a teenager who stole his mother's shotgun, walked into a school that had banned the one thing capable of stopping him fast, and started killing children – and their answer is to write another law that would have done nothing to stop any part of that chain of events.

A universal background check doesn't catch a kid grabbing a gun his mom already legally owns.

A red-flag law doesn't work if nobody files the paperwork before he walks out the door.

Rep. Janelle Bynum stood at a vigil and asked why more people don't have "that same bravery" as the armed bystander – then in the next breath called for keeping more guns away from people like him.

That's not a policy position, that's a contradiction Democrats haven't had to answer out loud until now.

Jack Reed wants the Roberts Court to reverse Heller and Bruen, two rulings that protect the exact right Kaylub Giamanco used to save the rest of that school.

Take away that right, and the next shooter doesn't meet an armed father in the hallway – he meets an empty gun-free zone with nobody left to stop him.
