The witch hunt is not over
Last month, the Supreme Court handed down a ruling that upheld decades of established law and precedent involving Presidential immunity, effectively neutering most of the lawfare Democrats have waged against former President Donald Trump.
Many Trump supporters thought that meant Democrats’ lawfare strategy was dead in the water.
But as Fox News’s Bill Hemmer recently pointed out, Manhattan Democrat District Attorney Alvin Bragg’s witch hunt against Trump is still moving forward, and corrupted Judge Juan Merchan is scheduled to sentence the former President in the case on September 18.
As Hemmer noted, Merchan has repeatedly refused to step down from his role in the trial despite significant conflicts of interest arising from his daughter’s political consulting firm, which has raked in tens of millions of dollars from Democrat clients like Vice President Kamala Harris, Rep. Adam Schiff (D-CA), and many others.
Clearly, the Democrat Judge is looking forward to being able to sentence Trump in a few weeks.
In fact, former Justice Department official John Yoo revealed to Hemmer that after ruling “against Donald Trump every opportunity he’s had,” Judge Merchan specifically chose the September 18 date so that his sentencing of the former President could have maximum impact on the Presidential race.
“He could have exercised his discretion here to change the sentencing date,” Yoo explained. “But instead, he actually moved it closer to the beginning of absentee voting in my home state of Pennsylvania.”
A helping hand for Democrats
Yoo went on to suggest that despite Trump being a “first-time nonviolent offender,” Merchan could unilaterally decide to sentence him to years in prison and even lock him up immediately – and keep him there through the election – by refusing him bail while his sentence is under appeal.
“What if Judge Merchan even went crazier and said, Donald Trump doesn’t even get to stay out of jail while his case is on appeal?” Yoo told Hemmer. “He has the power to actually order Donald Trump sent to jail immediately, although I expect he wouldn’t.”
Ultimately, Yoo concluded that because Judge Merchan has steered Bragg’s case from the beginning in order to maximize its impact on the Presidential election and help Democrats, that’s likely what he’ll continue to do next month.
“But this judge has used discretion every time to try to force this trial in a political direction that will have an effect on the election,” Yoo concluded.
For nearly a decade now, Democrats have been desperate to stop Donald Trump by any means necessary.
With early voting starting next month, they’re ready to go all-in on finishing the job once and for all.
