Barbara Bush Just Quietly Bankrolled the Texas Democrat Who Rails Against Billionaires

James Talarico has spent his entire Senate campaign railing against billionaires and the ultra wealthy donor class.

Then a member of the most famous Republican family in Texas quietly wrote him a check.

What that donation reveals about his billionaire crusade is about to make Democrats squirm.

Bush Family Donor Chose Full Disclosure Over Anonymous Dark Money

Barbara Bush is the daughter of former President George W. Bush.

She's also the twin sister of NBC's Jenna Bush Hager.

FEC filings confirm Bush gave $2,500 this quarter to Lone Star Rising PAC.

That PAC accounts for almost all the outside money boosting Talarico's Senate campaign.

She didn't even bother hiding behind a dark money shell.

She let her name show up on paper, for a candidate who built his entire campaign on hating anonymous money in politics.

Her father's feud with Donald Trump has been simmering since the 2016 primary.

Trump mocked George W. Bush's mother and brother from the debate stage, and the Bush family never forgot it.

George P. Bush's political career collapsed in Texas back in 2022 after he tried and failed to make peace with Trump's base.

Her last name buys Talarico something money alone cannot – Republican credibility in Texas.

Billionaires Are Already Bankrolling Talarico's War On Billionaires

Barbara Bush is nowhere near the biggest name writing checks for Talarico.

Tech billionaire Reid Hoffman dropped $10 million into the pro-Talarico super PAC this summer.

Eagles legend Don Henley kicked in $150,000 of his own money.

Talarico has also headlined a fundraiser with billionaire Hyatt heir JB Pritzker.

He once said the biggest divide in America is "top versus bottom," not left versus right.

Then he flew to Palo Alto, San Francisco and Marin County for a string of fundraisers with some of the richest donors in the country.

He even claims his Christian faith requires him to oppose super PACs altogether.

The Washington Free Beacon reports his campaign posted media market targeting and mailer instructions to its website on January 11.

Two days later, Lone Star Rising – the same PAC Barbara Bush just funded – started running ads that matched those instructions zip code for zip code.

That PAC is chaired by Talarico's own former chief of staff.

Ken Paxton's campaign could not have scripted a better contrast two weeks before Election Day.

A new Fox News poll has Talarico leading Paxton by just two points, 51 percent to 49 percent.

Texans don't like being lectured about billionaires by a candidate running a billionaire buffet.

Paxton Already Beat One Bush in This State

Talarico built his entire brand on being the one candidate who isn't bought.

Then he assembled a coalition that includes a Bush family scion, a Silicon Valley billionaire, a Hyatt heir and a rock star.

He still wants Texans to believe he's fighting for the little guy.

Trump figured this exact scam out a decade ago.

He called out the donor class consensus both parties protected for years, and voters rewarded him for it.

The last time a Bush ran statewide in Texas, he lost the Republican primary to the man Talarico is now trying to beat.

Barbara Bush didn't bother straddling anything – she just picked Talarico outright.

Talarico is running the same old con with a fresh coat of populist paint.

Texas voters are sharp enough to read an FEC filing.

Paxton doesn't need to invent an attack ad here.

He just needs to read the receipts out loud.
