Letitia James spent years promising voters she would be the one who finally nailed Donald Trump.
Governor Hochul just handed that same prosecutor New York's most explosive campus rape case.
James told the internet whose side she was on before she ever opened the file.
James Declared Her Verdict Three Days Before Hochul Hired Her
On Sept. 28, Letitia James posted a message on her official attorney general account addressed directly to the Jane Doe accusing seven former Cornell Chi Phi fraternity members of gang rape.
"What this young woman has been forced to endure is horrific and unacceptable," James wrote.
"To her, and to all survivors: you're not alone. We stand with you."
She posted that before she had subpoena power in the case or had reviewed a single new document.
Three days later, Gov. Kathy Hochul appointed James's office as special prosecutor on the Cornell case, and James vowed to investigate it "fully and fairly."
Attorney Andrew Miltenberg, who represents one of the accused former students, says that sequence is the whole problem.
"It appears that the person making those comments [is] biased," Miltenberg told Fox News.
He wants James off the case entirely, with federal prosecutors stepping in instead.
Legal analyst Mehek Cooke went further on Fox & Friends, calling the appointment "unprofessional" and "a violation of professional responsibility."
"Imagine being on the other side," Cooke said. "Imagine having to defend yourself when you have the lead prosecutor who is saying she 'stands with' Jane Doe."
Miltenberg isn't arguing the allegations should be ignored.
He says his client and Doe had a "mutual sexual interaction" that both consented to.
He wants the actual evidence examined – not a verdict Albany already announced on social media.
Cornell's own investigation already ran six months, pulled in dozens of witnesses, and produced a hundred-page ruling after nearly two weeks of hearings.
Tompkins County District Attorney Matt Van Houten also has a sworn statement Doe signed that he says tells a different story on consent than the lawsuit does.
Van Houten declined to file charges based on that statement.
Hochul and James just reopened the case with a press conference instead of new evidence.
The Same AG Who Spent Years Hunting Trump Now Polices Herself
Letitia James did not stumble into this reputation.
Her office's civil fraud case against the Trump Organization made her a national hero on the left and a target for every conservative in the country.
A deleted email surfaced this year showing a prosecutor inside her own office saying he was ordered to "find and pursue crimes" against Trump allies, according to Fox News.
Rep. Elise Stefanik has publicly demanded James be disbarred over what she calls a politically driven investigation.
Now James herself sits under federal indictment for mortgage fraud, a case she has called vindictive and politically motivated.
The woman facing calls for her own disbarment over allegedly targeting a president is the same woman who couldn't wait three days to tell a rape accuser whose side she's on.
That's not compassion getting ahead of the process.
That's a prosecutor who already knows the verdict she wants and is building the case to match it.
Hochul had an entire state law enforcement apparatus to choose from.
She chose the one official in it already facing federal charges for her own alleged fraud.
Seven young men now have their futures decided by a prosecutor who told the internet she "stands with" the woman accusing them, before she read a page of the file Van Houten already reviewed.
Due process isn't a talking point conservatives invented to protect guilty men.
It's the only thing standing between "horrific allegation" and "proven fact," and James blew through it in a single tweet.
A real independent prosecutor reads the evidence first and forms an opinion second.
James did it backward, in public, on the record, and Hochul rewarded her for it with the biggest case in Ithaca.
Picture James tweeting sympathy for the accused fraternity brothers instead, before taking the case.
Every outlet in New York would be demanding her head right now.
Instead she gets a special prosecutor badge and a press conference promising fairness she's already proven she doesn't believe in.
