China quietly stole 220 million American voter files while Washington covered it up.
Now Homeland Security Secretary Markwayne Mullin says he found something worse hiding inside the machines themselves.
Mullin says four blue states now have two weeks to answer for what he found in their machines.
DHS Finds 250000 Noncitizens and 400000 Dead Voters Still on the Rolls
Secretary Mullin stood in front of cameras on Friday and did something Washington bureaucrats almost never do.
He put numbers on the table.
DHS's review turned up more than 250,000 potential noncitizens registered to vote across California, New Jersey, Nevada, and Pennsylvania, according to Mullin.
California alone accounted for more than 190,000 of them, on Gavin Newsom's watch.
Twenty three other states volunteered their own data and turned up another 28,000 noncitizens on the rolls – plus 400,000 dead Americans still registered to vote.
Four hundred thousand deceased voters, still sitting active on the rolls of a country that just spent a year debating whether voter ID is racist.
"Election security is national security," Mullin said.
That count only covers four states out of fifty, Mullin noted, meaning the real number is still unknown.
Translation – Gavin Newsom and his fellow Democrat governors have been sitting on filthy voter rolls for years, and nobody in those state capitals lifted a finger until Donald Trump forced the issue.
Nevada's Democrat Secretary of State Cisco Aguilar brushed off the findings as speculation.
Blue state officials calling their own voter rolls "safe" while refusing to hand over the data for a federal review is not confidence.
It is a confession.
Iran Hacked Military Voter Files and Biden's Team Buried It
The noncitizen numbers were only half of Friday's press conference.
Mullin confirmed that Iran hacked state voter files and tried to breach the systems American troops use to vote from overseas.
Worse, he confirmed the Biden administration and the intelligence community knew about the Iranian hack the entire time and sat on it.
They didn't tell the American people.
They didn't tell Congress.
American voting machines also rely on components built by hostile foreign nations instead of by American allies.
Mullin said adversaries "can access what they consider the key to the back of these machines," with the power to alter voter registration data without anyone knowing.
This is the Secretary of Homeland Security, standing at a podium, telling America the machines we vote on carry a foreign-built vulnerability baked into the hardware.
Mullin's fix does not require a single new law from a gridlocked Congress.
He and Commerce Secretary Howard Lutnick are tying federal election grant money directly to whether a state adopts these security upgrades.
No security upgrades, no federal check.
It is the kind of leverage Washington should have used a decade ago.
Democrat Governors Are Out of Excuses Two Weeks From Now
Democrat officials in California, New Jersey, Nevada, and Pennsylvania have spent years insisting their elections are the gold standard while stonewalling every request to actually prove it, and now they are stuck defending 400,000 dead voters instead of defending democracy.
Mullin has already warned that state officials who refuse to cooperate could face fines or even prison time, and the noncitizen and dead-voter numbers coming out of just four states suggest plenty of officials are about to test that threat.
Mullin made the political stakes plain when he said no American, regardless of party, should want a fraudulent vote canceling out a legal one, and that is a message even a skeptical independent voter can understand at the kitchen table.
The foreign hardware vulnerability inside voting machines is the part of this story that should outlast the midterm news cycle, because a backdoor built by a hostile nation does not care which party controls a governor's mansion.
Newsom, Aguilar, and every Democrat official stonewalling this review are not defending election integrity, they are defending the mess that got them elected.
