Late night legends like Johnny Carson, Jay Leno, and Dave Letterman, all made fun of both Republicans and Democrats.
But that has all changed in the new woke era of leftist hosts like Stephen Colbert and Jimmy Kimmel.
But Jimmy Kimmel just made one awful joke about Taylor Swift and Travis Kelce’s relationship, and it backfired badly.
Late-night talk shows have fallen far
Hosts like Stephen Colbert and Jimmy Kimmel have turned late-night TV into Trump-bashing, conservative-hating propaganda programming that is mostly watched by leftists.
On his show Jimmy Kimmel Live!, host Jimmy Kimmel has made a career out of attacking and smearing former President Donald Trump while pushing the Democrats’ left-wing agenda.
Of course, Trump has made it crystal clear that he is no fan of Kimmel.
On April 17, he slammed “stupid Jimmy Kimmel” and referred to him as a “horrendous” late-night TV host.
He also pointed out that late-night TV ratings have been declining ever since Kimmel started hosting his show on ABC.
“Stupid Jimmy Kimmel” botches joke about Travis Kelce and Taylor Swift
But even when Kimmel isn’t making fun of Trump or conservatives, it turns out he still lacks a sense of humor in his opening monologues.
He recently decided to try and crack a joke about Taylor Swift and Travis Kelce’s relationship.
Swift’s relationship with Kansas City Chiefs tight end Travis Kelce was one of the biggest stories of last year’s NFL season.
Television networks devoted extra coverage every time Swift appeared at the games to root on her boyfriend.
Kimmel thought it would be funny to take a swipe at the fact that Swift makes far more money than Kelce.
Even though Kelce recently became the highest-paid tight end in the NFL with a $34 million contract extension.
Of course, $34 million is far more than 99.9% of Americans will earn in a lifetime.
But Taylor Swift is the most popular entertainer on the planet.
Last year, Forbes estimated her net worth to be $1.1 billion.
But Kimmel wasn’t dissuaded.
After spending the first nine minutes attacking Donald Trump, Kimmel congratulated Kelce for securing a multimillion-dollar, two-year deal with the Chiefs.
“Congratulations to Travis Kelce,” he said. “Travis Kelce signed a two-year contract extension with the Kansas City Chiefs and he is now the highest-paid tight end in the NFL, deservedly.”
But Kimmel then made fun of how much less he makes than his girlfriend Taylor Swift.
“So his new contract is worth $34 million, or as Taylor Swift calls it, gum money,” Kimmel said. “Can you imagine being in a relationship where you make $34 million and you’re still the broke boyfriend?”
“I’m not sure if he’s a football player or a kitten,” Kimmel said about Kelce.
He called dating Taylor Swift a “weird thing” before pointing out she is the “first artist in history to occupy all of the top 14 spots on Billboard’s Hot 100 list.”
Of course, Kimmel’s salary is roughly $15 million per year, just half of Kelce’s new deal.
It turns out Kimmel can’t even be funny when he’s not attacking Trump or smearing his supporters as racist, violent, dangerous extremists.
He should go back to girls on trampolines.
