John Cornyn Just Scored a Big Time Endorsement and It May Be the Greatest News Paxton Has Gotten in the Race

John Cornyn just landed a major endorsement in his Texas Senate runoff against Ken Paxton.

The man who made the call has a perfect record of backing establishment candidates – and watching conservatives beat them anyway.

His name is Karl Rove.

The Track Record No One in the Cornyn Campaign Wants You to Remember

Rove built his reputation as the architect of George W. Bush's campaigns – the same administration that gave America open borders, regime-change forever wars, and a GOP Establishment that won’t stand up for conservative voters on anything that matters like forcing a vote on the SAVE Act.

Even if there aren’t enough votes to pass it right now, just forcing the vote would arm midterm voters with where their candidates actually stand.

That’s the last thing Rove and his ilk want though.

Rove helped launch Cornyn's original Senate run in 2002. Decades later, he was working the phones against Paxton during the 2023 impeachment push – the one the Texas Senate rejected in a landslide.

And in 2017, when conservatives rallied behind Roy Moore in Alabama, Rove was backing the establishment pick.

The Democrat won that seat. It was the first time Alabama sent a Democrat to the Senate in 25 years.

That's the pattern. Rove backs the weak candidate. The weak candidate loses. Then Rove writes a Wall Street Journal column explaining why conservatives are to blame.

Rove's Alabama Playbook Is Being Run in Texas Right Now

Look at what Rove actually wrote this week.

In his Wall Street Journal column, he warned that nominating Paxton could let Democrats "repeat in Texas what they did in a 2017 Alabama Senate special election."

Read that again.

The man who backed the establishment candidate who lost to Roy Moore is now warning Texas Republicans about Alabama.

He's using his own failure as a weapon against the candidate Texas conservatives actually want.

Rove didn't spell out what Paxton's supposed "scandals" are. He didn't need to. The playbook is older than MAGA. Smear the outsider, elevate the insider, and move on to the next state.

What the Cornyn Campaign Has Left

Cornyn's team is in full panic mode.

They released an attack ad claiming Paxton stole a pen.

A pen.

Then Cornyn published an op-ed claiming he now supports killing the Senate filibuster to pass the SAVE Act – a position he spent years opposing, flipped on in the final stretch of a primary he's losing.

When a reporter asked him Wednesday whether he'd changed his stance just to win Trump's endorsement, Cornyn shoved his hand in the reporter's face. "I think we're done. Go away."

That's what the establishment looks like when it's cornered.

Polls already show Paxton ahead regardless of a Trump endorsement. The voters who backed third-place finisher Wesley Hunt – a man Cornyn's campaign viciously attacked – are breaking for Paxton in the runoff.

Now Rove is riding in as the closing argument.

Texas Conservatives Know Exactly What This Endorsement Means

When Karl Rove endorses your candidate, you're not winning the MAGA base. You're announcing you've given up on it.

Rove's super PACs burned through hundreds of millions of dollars trying to stop the Tea Party. They failed. He called Trump's 2016 path to victory improbable right up until election night. His establishment project has been losing ground to America First voters for a decade straight.

Texas Republicans have a clear choice. They can send Washington the same Cornyn who blocked Trump priorities and got endorsed by the man who cost Republicans Alabama. Or they can send Ken Paxton – a MAGA stalwart who fought for election integrity when the establishment told him to sit down and shut up.

Karl Rove just told you everything you need to know about who John Cornyn really works for.
