Ilhan Omar just told her constituents that Democrats aren't just done with ICE – they want to tear down the entire Department of Homeland Security.
A Michigan Senate candidate stood on a college campus and made the same case to 600 students, and nobody in the media asked the obvious question.
Ask yourself why the same coalition of DSA-aligned progressives keeps targeting the one federal agency that was built specifically to prevent what happened on September 11.
What El-Sayed Actually Said at Michigan State
Abdul El-Sayed took the stage at MSU's Anthony Hall alongside Hasan Piker – who once said America deserved 9/11 – and Pennsylvania Rep. Summer Lee.
The crowd was 600 students in the room and 37,000 watching on Twitch.
El-Sayed's message was simple: ICE cannot be reformed and must be abolished.
"There is no reforming, there is no retraining, there is only abolishing ICE," El-Sayed said at the rally.
He has been saying it since 2018, long before it became fashionable on the left.
He visited Minneapolis at the height of Operation Metro Surge and stood alongside Minnesota Attorney General Keith Ellison to condemn the federal immigration crackdown.
He called ICE a "paramilitary force" that treats American neighborhoods like occupied territory.
He is now the Democratic Senate nominee for Michigan, having defeated Rep. Haley Stevens in the August primary, with Bernie Sanders and Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez in his corner heading into November.
The Pattern Nobody in Mainstream Media Will Name
ICE was created in March 2003 – born directly from the ashes of the September 11 attacks.
Congress passed the Homeland Security Act in November 2002 specifically to close the security gaps that let 19 hijackers enter the country, overstay visas, and murder 3,000 Americans.
ICE was the answer: a single agency with combined immigration and customs enforcement authority, an explicit counterterrorism mission, and the power to track, detain, and deport people who exploit America's immigration system as a weapon.
Now look at who wants to kill it.
Ilhan Omar stood before a Minneapolis crowd and said it plainly: "We must abolish ICE. This moment demands it."
She has since told supporters there's active discussion within her party about what comes after ICE – dismantling the Department of Homeland Security itself.
DSA co-chair Megan Romer spelled out the broader wish list in writing this July, calling in the same breath to abolish ICE, gut the Pentagon budget, and eliminate the prison system.
Rep. Shri Thanedar, a Michigan Democrat, has proposed legislation to strip ICE agents of qualified immunity and dismantle the agency outright.
The Congressional Progressive Caucus – with Omar as its loudest voice – officially adopted a position opposing any funding for immigration enforcement.
El-Sayed, meanwhile, called the Iran War "illegal and unjustifiable" at the same MSU rally where he shared a stage with Piker, who has separately praised Mao Zedong as one of history's great leaders.
This isn't a coincidence of individual opinions.
It's a coordinated platform, and El-Sayed, Omar, and Thanedar are all running or governing on the same page of it.
What ICE Actually Does in Michigan
The Department of Homeland Security maintains a "Worst of the Worst" database – a public record of the criminal illegal aliens ICE has arrested.
In Michigan alone, ICE has arrested 322 such offenders.
The charges include 37 assault offenses, 36 sex assaults, 23 DUI offenses, 17 larcenies, and 16 burglaries – plus homicide, rape, child sexual abuse, and drug trafficking.
El-Sayed wants to abolish the agency that arrested every single one of them.
He says the country can still secure the border and enforce immigration law – just not through ICE.
He wants to build a replacement "from scratch."
What does that look like in reality?
It means every one of those 322 dangerous criminals potentially walks free during the transition.
It means the counterterrorism infrastructure built specifically after 9/11 gets torn down.
It means the enforcement mechanism created to stop the next Mohamed Atta from exploiting our immigration system disappears – right when the people calling for its destruction are ascending to power.
The Question the Media Won't Ask
Nobody at that MSU rally asked El-Sayed why, of all the policy priorities available to a U.S. Senate candidate in Michigan, he chose to make his signature issue the abolition of the agency built to prevent another 9/11-style attack.
Nobody asked Ilhan Omar why she is not just calling to abolish ICE but discussing plans to dismantle the entire Department of Homeland Security.
El-Sayed himself has said Piker's 9/11 remark was wrong – yet he keeps sharing a stage with him while building his Senate campaign around dismantling the agency that answer was built to prevent.
ICE was built with one core purpose: never again.
There is a political movement in this country working to undo that, and its most prominent voice in Michigan is about to be a United States senator.
