Manhattan District Attorney Alvin Bragg has virtually the whole Democrat machine lined up behind his crusade against Donald Trump.
He’s getting assistance from unexpected quarters, though.
Now this one RINO Senator went on CNN to try and help Alvin Bragg in his case to lock Donald Trump up behind bars.
Mitt Romney wants to see Trump thrown in jail
Manu Raj, a reporter from CNN, spends all of his time trying to catch Republicans in the halls of Congress, trying to coerce them into saying something that hurts the party.
Usually, he tries to frame his on-the-spot questions as a gotcha or tries to get Republicans to stab fellow party members in the back while in front of a camera.
And when he came across RINO Senator Mitt Romney (R-UT,) he did not hesitate to sell Raj exactly what he wanted.
When Raj asked Romney about Manhattan District Attorney Alvin Bragg’s case against Donald Trump, he did not stop short of grinning ear to ear about the opportunity to trash on the former President.
Raj asked about Bragg’s allegation regarding the use of a $130,000 nondisclosure agreement (NDA) by Donald Trump over Stormy Daniels, manufacturing the situation into a phony campaign finance violation.
As to be expected, Romney completely disregarded the facts of the case, saying that Trump was guilty because he thought he was a bad person.
“I think everybody has made their own assessment of President Trump’s character,” Romney told Raj. “And so far as I know, you don’t pay someone $130,000 not to have sex with you.”
Romney served Bragg exactly what he wanted on a silver platter
According to Jonathan Turley, a law professor at George Washington University, Romney’s answer was extremely shocking.
Turley wrote in a column on his website that Romney completely embodied the type of juror that Bragg is dreaming to recruit.
He argued that Bragg is going to be looking for jurors that will completely ignore the facts of the case, and simply base their decision of whether Trump is guilty or innocent on whether or not they like him.
“His response is precisely what Manhattan District Attorney Alvin Bragg is seeking from the jury: a verdict on Trump as a person rather than the underlying criminal allegations,” Turley wrote.
Romney refused to acknowledge the fact that NDA’s have always been legal, and this should be as clear as day for the former businessman and candidate for President of the United States, himself.
“It is not a crime to use an NDA or other means to quash an embarrassing story,” continued Turley. “Bill Clinton had a host of lawyers quashing allegations of affairs and sexual assaults throughout his Presidency.”
Bragg hopes by crafting a narrative for his team and the media to use, repainting the use of an NDA as “hush money” and “election interference” might install a criminal-like overtone to the situation.
Despite his best attempts, the ideas that Bragg is trying to point to are perfectly legal, or offenses completely unrelated to this case.
It is exactly why Turley has been joined by several left-wing legal experts in declaring Bragg’s entire case against Trump as a complete “embarrassment.”
But Turley notes that it is worth fearing the idea that jurors could share Romney’s opinion that the facts don’t matter, which considering the pool from which the New York jury will be built, it seems more likely than not.
“Romney is precisely what Bragg is looking for in these jurors. Smart and savvy, he still viewed the question of the trial as whether Trump had an affair with Stormy Daniels,” Turley added in his post.
“If so, it was not a legal expense. Yet, quashing the story and avoiding any litigation was a legal matter with the eventual crafting of the NDA.”
