Trump's 'Infinite Life' Greenland Agreement Costs Taxpayers Nothing
Trump announced Friday that the United States had reached an agreement with Denmark and Greenland granting Washington permanent military access, basing rights, and overflight rights on the island.
No expiration date.
The deal explicitly bars Russia, China, and every other non-NATO adversary from establishing military bases, deploying troops, or making sensitive investments in Greenland without express written American approval.
Secretary of State Marco Rubio called it "a huge win" and said the agreement "permanently and completely addresses our national security concerns in Greenland."
The deal stays in force even if Greenland eventually becomes an independent country.
A senior State Department official put it plainly: the U.S. isn't paying a dime for the right to expand its military footprint on the island.
Other presidents tried to buy Greenland. Truman offered Denmark $100 million for it in 1946.
Denmark said no.
Trump got permanent security control for free.
How Russia and China Almost Beat America to the Arctic
The Left spent months mocking Trump for threatening to take Greenland, calling it reckless imperialism that would blow up NATO.
What they were really saying was: let Russia and China fill the vacuum.
Because that is exactly what was happening.
Russia reactivated its Arctic bases and built new ones while American presidents held summits and issued statements.
China spent a decade investing in Greenlandic mining operations, building Arctic infrastructure, and positioning itself for exactly the kind of influence operation Trump just made impossible.
The establishment had twenty years to address this.
They didn't, because addressing it required the kind of direct pressure and willingness to make allies uncomfortable that Washington's foreign policy class considers unseemly.
Trump made Denmark uncomfortable for months.
He threatened to take Greenland by force. He refused to take acquisition off the table. He made clear that America's Arctic security needs were non-negotiable.
Denmark – a NATO ally – came to the table.
They signed a permanent deal that locks America's adversaries out of the Arctic forever.

The media will spend this week covering the signing ceremony at the UN General Assembly and looking for angles to criticize.
They'll interview Greenlandic residents who don't want closer ties with Washington. They'll find a Danish politician willing to call it complicated.
What they won't tell you is that every American president since Truman knew Greenland had to be secured – and Trump is the only one who actually got it done.
