A New 2028 Poll Shows the GOP Could Be Getting Their Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez Prayers Answered

Democrats handed Hillary Clinton the nomination in 2016 and watched her lose to Donald Trump.

Now a brand-new poll shows they may be getting ready to do it again even after AOC stood on a world stage in February and couldn't answer a basic question about Taiwan.

You will not believe what the poll numbers for their 2028 presidential frontrunner look like.

AOC Leads the 2028 Democrat Presidential Primary Poll at 26 Percent

AtlasIntel – rated A by FiveThirtyEight, not some right-wing outfit – surveyed 2,069 Americans between May 4 and May 7.

Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez came in first at 26 percent.

Pete Buttigieg, the transportation secretary who couldn't fix a railroad or explain why baby formula was disappearing from shelves, came in second at 22 percent.

Gavin Newsom, the governor of a state people are leaving by the hundreds of thousands, finished third at 21 percent.

And Kamala Harris – the woman who just lost a presidential election to a man Democrats spent four years calling Hitler – managed 13 percent.

That's the top of the 2028 Democrat field.

That's what they've got.

AOC Munich Security Conference Taiwan Gaffe Republicans Still Cannot Stop Watching

Three months ago, AOC flew to the Munich Security Conference to introduce herself to the world as a serious foreign policy thinker.

It did not go as planned.

When asked whether the United States should commit troops to defend Taiwan if China invaded, she said: "Um, you know, I think that this is such a, you know, I think that this is a um – this is, of course, a, um, very long-standing, um, policy of the United States."

That's not a paraphrase.

That's the actual quote – transcribed word for word, published by multiple outlets, and watched millions of times.

She also placed Venezuela below the equator.

Venezuela is in the Northern Hemisphere.

New York Democrat strategist Hank Sheinkopf, not exactly a Republican operative, called it a "complete lack of chops about international issues."

GOP strategist Matt Whitlock called it "the word salad heard round the world."

Donald Trump said it was "not a good look for the United States."

That was three months ago.

Now she's leading the 2028 Democrat primary.

Democrat Party Insiders Warn Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez Cannot Win a General Election

Here's what makes this poll extraordinary: the people who study Democrat politics for a living are already raising the alarm.

Third Way, the centrist Democrat think tank, held a conference in Charleston in March specifically to mobilize party operatives against an AOC nomination.

Their vice president of policy, Jim Kessler, did not mince words.

"She's way too far left," he said.

"We can't elect a congresswoman from Queens."

"She would lose 40 states at a minimum."

That's a Democrat talking about a Democrat.

Meanwhile, Polymarket – where real money changes hands – gives AOC an 8 percent chance of winning the Democrat nomination.

The people putting money on the line have a very different view of her chances than Democrat primary voters casting ballots in a phone survey.

That gap is worth understanding.

What This Poll Actually Tells You

Democrats lost working-class men, Hispanic voters, and young voters in 2024 – and the reason is straightforward.

AOC is the purest expression of those priorities.

Green New Deal.

Defund the police.

Socialist economics.

Foreign policy word salad.

The party establishment knows nominating her would be a gift to Republicans.

The base doesn't care.

On the Republican side, the same AtlasIntel poll shows Marco Rubio leading the 2028 field at 45 percent – more than JD Vance, more than Ron DeSantis, more than everyone.

This is the same Marco Rubio who delivered a keynote on American strength at that same Munich Security Conference in February — while AOC was on a separate panel fumbling geography questions in the same building.

Hakeem Jeffries, Nancy Pelosi, and Chuck Schumer have spent two years promising their base they have a plan to take back the White House.

Their base just told them what the plan looks like.

It looks like a congresswoman from the Bronx who can't find Venezuela on a map, doesn't know what to say about Taiwan, and just got outvoted by Donald Trump's party by millions of votes in a presidential election.

The DNC built this. They own it.
