A California couple packed twenty apartments with pregnant women paying cash for American citizenship.
Marco Rubio just made sure the recruiters behind that scheme can never buy another U.S. visa.
The State Department is dismantling an entire citizenship-selling business, and the numbers behind it are staggering.
Birth Tourism Recruiters Coached Pregnant Women To Hide Pregnancies From Consular Officers
A company called You Win USA billed each pregnant client $40,000 to $80,000 for the whole package.
Recruiters advertised that American citizenship would unlock education and public benefits for the child for life.
Investigators traced three million dollars wired in from China across just two years of the operation.
Recruiters allegedly told clients to dress in clothes loose enough that consular officers would not notice they were pregnant.
Customers were coached to lie about their travel plans and to pick entry points they believed had weaker screening.
Some clients reportedly skipped out on their own hospital bills after the baby arrived.
That is not tourism.
That is fraud, dressed up and sold by the pound.
Federal prosecutors did not stop at one ring. Related indictments charged 19 people across three separate birth tourism schemes.
Under federal law, a visitor visa is only good for its stated purpose, and lying about that purpose to get in the door is a felony, not a gray area.
Birth Tourism Company That Claimed 8000 Clients Finally Faces Visa Fraud Charges
A separate operation, Star Baby Care, claimed in its own marketing that it had pushed 8,000 pregnant women through the same pipeline.
A maternity house operator running a similar scheme out of Rancho Cucamonga got hit with a 41 month federal prison sentence.
A California couple, Michael Liu and Phoebe Dong, were convicted on conspiracy and international money laundering charges for running their own version of the same business.
Operators simply moved to the next paying customer the moment one got caught.
Rubio just closed that loophole for good.
His new State Department policy bans visas for the fixers, recruiters, and foreign doctors who knowingly coach women to commit fraud.
That includes medical providers who help clients fraudulently tap into Medicaid once they land.
The administration's new task force on birth tourism has already revoked more than 750 visas tied to the scheme, part of a broader purge that has pulled over 175,000 visas since Trump took office.
This is the same fight as Trump's birthright citizenship crackdown, just fought from the visa counter instead of the courtroom.
Legitimate travelers with real medical needs and honest paperwork are not the target here.
The target is the business model built entirely on lying to American officials.
For years, nobody touched the people actually running these operations.
Prosecutors chased individual clients one plane ticket at a time.
Meanwhile the recruiters who built the whole scheme kept cashing checks from Beijing to Guangzhou.
Rubio flipped the entire strategy.
He is going after the business, not the customer.
That is how you actually kill an industry instead of just slowing it down.
It is the same play that broke the fentanyl cartels.
Stop chasing the mules. Go after the men running the operation.
American citizenship used to mean something you earned or were born into, not something you purchased through a maternity house package deal.
Ilhan Omar will call this cruel.
She calls every border enforcement win cruel.
Nobody forced these operators to coach pregnant women into lying to federal officers for a payday.
Trump and Rubio are not closing a loophole for sympathetic grandmothers visiting newborn grandchildren.
They are shutting down a multimillion dollar fraud ring that treated the United States passport like a product on a shelf.
That is exactly the kind of fight this administration was elected to win.
