Charlie Kirk's assassin left a note bragging he finally had his chance.
Three days after his widow unveiled his memorial statue, someone came for it in the dark.
What they crossed out on that statue will make you sick.
Red Paint and a Crossed-Out Cross Hit Turning Point USA's Phoenix Headquarters
Vandals hit Turning Point USA's Phoenix headquarters overnight Saturday, discovered by staff Sunday morning.
Red paint covered the eight-foot bronze statue from its face down to its neck.
Someone painted a mocking, scowling face onto its chest.
Then they went to the memorial sign at the base – the one bearing Kirk's image and the words "Jesus defeated death so you can live" – and they crossed out Jesus.
They wrote "Satan" across the display instead.
Phoenix police confirmed officers responded to the scene and are investigating.
No suspects have been identified.
The timing was not accidental.
TPUSA had unveiled the statue just three days earlier, on September 10 – exactly one year after Kirk was shot and killed during a campus event at Utah Valley University.
The statue – commissioned from Utah sculptor Quintin McCann, who began working on a portrait of Kirk the night he was killed – captured details down to Kirk's wedding ring, his signature "Freedom" T-shirt, and the cross necklace he was rarely seen without.
Erika Kirk Responds to the Statue Vandalism With a Message of Faith
Kirk's widow, now CEO of Turning Point USA, responded the way her husband would have wanted her to.
Erika Kirk invoked something Charlie used to say – that for every statue they tear down, build two more – and vowed the attack would only spread his message further.
She said the bullet that killed Charlie only amplified his voice.
"God will not be mocked," she wrote.
By Sunday afternoon, TPUSA spokesman Andrew Kolvet announced the statue had been fully restored, writing that the team had gotten it "looking good as new."
TPUSA COO Tyler Bowyer put it plainly at the scene: "This isn't the country we want to live in. Arizona is not Gotham."
Rep. Abe Hamadeh condemned the attack and issued a direct warning about who is responsible.
"The left is intolerant and militant," Hamadeh wrote. "Evil exists and must be confronted continuously."
Rep. Andy Biggs was even more direct: "This is absolute evil."
Charlie Kirk's Memorial Has Been Targeted Before as Tyler Robinson Heads to Trial
The left likes to pretend these are random acts by random people.
They are not.
Weeks after Kirk's death, while mourners were still leaving flowers and handwritten notes at a memorial outside this same building, a 19-year-old named Ryder Corral tore through it.
Witnesses restrained him until police arrived, and he was charged with criminal damage.
It's not the first time vandals have targeted a memorial to Kirk at this address.
It won't be the last.
Benny Johnson said it perfectly: "These people are incapable of building anything, all they know is destruction."
Meanwhile, Tyler Robinson – the 23-year-old who murdered Charlie Kirk – is headed to trial in Utah facing the death penalty.
A judge ruled this month that prosecutors had "a mountain of evidence" against him.
DNA on the trigger of the rifle matched Robinson's.
He spent more than a week planning the murder.
And while the legal system moves toward justice for Kirk's family, the ideological movement that produced Robinson keeps sending people in the night to spray paint Satan's name over Jesus Christ's on memorials to the man they murdered.
Think about that.
Turning Point USA Vows to Keep Building After the Attack
TPUSA has more than 3,500 high school clubs across America right now.
Erika Kirk has said publicly that the organization is not afraid.
They are going back to campuses.
They are continuing the debates.
They are building.
Someone crossed out a name in the dark.
Erika Kirk put it back.
That is the entire story of this movement in one sentence.
TPUSA contributor Alex Clark issued the most important directive of all after seeing the damage.
"Vote red in midterms like your life depends on it," she wrote, "because it actually does as a conservative."
She is right.
The people who did this are showing up to vote.
The only question is whether you are.
