Troy Jackson spent decades building a folksy brand as the fifth-generation logger from Allagash, Maine.
Independent journalist Steve Robinson just proved that folksy brand comes with a family tree that barely branches.
Robinson's report, published through The Maine Wire, traces Jackson and his longtime partner Lana Pelletier to the exact same great-grandparents.
Jackson's maternal grandmother and Pelletier's paternal grandfather were siblings, making Jackson and Pelletier second cousins by blood.
The couple met as high school sweethearts at Fort Kent High School and never legally married.
They share two adult sons, Chace and Camden, raised in the same tiny St John River Valley town where both grew up.
Allagash has a population of 237 people, and locals have treated the Jackson Pelletier pairing as an open secret for decades.
Jackson's own official biographies used to call Pelletier his wife before his campaign quietly switched the word to partner.

Jackson and Pelletier skipped a wedding entirely, and Maine's law offers no common-law backdoor to cover them.
That loophole means Pelletier's finances could conveniently never have to appear anywhere on Jackson's paperwork at all.
Jackson has gone this entire week without filing the disclosure or even asking for more time.
That's the same disclosure standard every other Senate candidate, Susan Collins included, is legally expected to meet.
Jackson wants Mainers to trust him with their tax dollars while he cannot even produce a basic disclosure form.
Rep Nancy Mace summed up the reaction on X in eight words. "Can't wait for Democrats to defend cousin marriage!"
Jackson's campaign fired back at reporters instead of answering the actual question about the missing paperwork.
"Personal attacks on Troy's family are shameful and desperate," the campaign told The New York Post in a statement.
That statement never once addressed why the disclosure paperwork is still sitting empty.

Within five days conservative outlets found genealogical records showing Jackson's own household includes a second cousin he spent years calling his wife.

Republicans have already committed $42 million to beating Jackson this fall, and apparently none of that money bought a basic background check.
