Every Iran hawk in Washington spent this week telling you Trump just handed Tehran a gift.
Then JD Vance walked into the White House briefing room and said seven words that ended the argument.
And every number Vance announced Thursday explains why the critics had it exactly backwards.
The Numbers That Prove Trump Was Right All Along
Twelve and a half million barrels of oil moved through the Strait of Hormuz Thursday night – the highest flow since the conflict began.
Oil prices are nearly back to pre-war levels.
Gas dropped to $3.999 a gallon, the national average, on Thursday.
Indiana is already at $3.39. Texas is at $3.49.
Vance announced every one of those numbers from the podium, and he wasn't done.
"Gas prices dropped below $4 a gallon today, for the first time since the conflict, and importantly, they're gonna keep falling further, given how low oil prices are," Vance said.
The establishment press spent months running wall-to-wall stories about Trump's reckless gamble and the economic catastrophe unfolding on his watch.
Oil hit $120 a barrel at its peak. Today it's sitting near $80 – still above the $67 pre-war baseline, but falling fast as Hormuz flows normalize.
For three and a half months, Americans paid a $1.50 premium at the pump every single time they filled their tanks.
That's over now – because Trump held the line.
Iran Loses Everything Either Way
Here's what Vance made crystal clear that the media won't explain to you.
Their nuclear program at Fordow, Natanz, and Isfahan is destroyed. U.S. strikes in June 2025 hit all three facilities. The IAEA confirmed the sites "suffered enormous damage." Their conventional military is wrecked. Their capacity to threaten neighbors is gone.
The deal gives Iran a 60-day window to negotiate the next phase – including permanent nuclear disarmament.
If they comply, the Middle East gets a transformed relationship with a post-theocracy Iran.
If they don't comply, they get nothing – and they're still sitting in the rubble of their own military.
That's when Vance said the seven words that ended the debate: "That's a win for the American people."
The full quote is even better.
"If the Iranians don't change their behavior, their military and their nuclear program is still destroyed. If they do change their behavior, then they are going to have a transformative relationship with the Middle East, and the Middle East will have a transformative relationship with the people of Iran. That's a win for the American people and for the President of the United States, regardless of which option the Iranians ultimately choose."
Not a single penny of American money goes to Iran under any circumstances. Any economic benefits Iran could theoretically receive – and those numbers floating around in the press are wildly misrepresented – require full compliance with every condition Trump set.
As for Sen. Bill Cassidy calling this "the worst foreign policy blunder in decades" – Cassidy voted to certify the 2020 election and voted to convict Trump at his second impeachment trial. His foreign policy instincts are not something conservatives need to spend time on.
This Is What Strength Actually Looks Like
Biden begged OPEC to produce more oil while gas prices climbed on his watch.
Trump watched gas prices spike to $4.56 – because of a war he started to eliminate Iran's nuclear program – and instead of begging, he destroyed Iran's military, forced the Strait of Hormuz back open, and cut a deal from a position of total dominance.
That's the difference.
The Strait of Hormuz carries 20 percent of the world's oil supply. Tehran closed it in retaliation for U.S. and Israeli strikes – triggering the largest oil supply shock in recorded history, bigger than the 1973 Arab embargo, bigger than Russia's invasion of Ukraine.
Trump didn't panic. He imposed a naval blockade on Iranian ports, gave Iran deadline after deadline, and methodically dismantled their ability to threaten the waterway.
The Strategic Petroleum Reserve hit its lowest level since 1983 during the crisis. Senior oil executives at companies including Exxon were warning publicly that prices would spike catastrophically if Hormuz didn't reopen before summer demand peaked.
It came through.
A president who said exactly what he was going to do, and then did it.
